Getronics and Siemens Business Services, working as a consortium, will together manage the network, server, storage and desktop environment at EUROCONTROL’s Headquarters in Brussels, its Experimental Centre in Brétigny-sur-Orge in France, and for the administrative support of its Central Flow Management Unit, also in Brussels.
They will manage over 1,430 desktops and over 140 servers, supervise the common operating environment, supply helpdesk services and carry out network management, including providing security services such as Internet access control and virus protection.
Víctor M. Aguado, Director General of EUROCONTROL, noted: “EUROCONTROL wants to transform its Information & Communications Technology (ICT) so as to increase the value of services delivered to different business units. Optimising our operational service is vital for us. The contract with this consortium includes an incentive scheme to decrease ICT costs through efficiency improvements and projects such as server consolidation.”
Jean-Claude Vandenbosch, General Manager of Getronics Belgium, observed: “The European Institutions have historically been valuable clients for Getronics. As such, we are pleased to help EUROCONTROL introduce a stable and predictable cost model for their IT budget. We believe that they will achieve cost reductions through synergies and enhanced economies of scale; they will also improve service levels overall. Through this outsourcing project, EUROCONTROL will be better able to focus on strategic work and key business activities.”
Alexander Dewulf, CEO of Siemens Business Services Belgium, declared: “Siemens Business Services is glad to take part in this consortium and is looking forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Getronics and EUROCONTROL. European institutions in general are an important focus for our company, especially in the framework of our local Excellence Center in e-government, and we will gladly leverage our expertise in this field for the benefit of EUROCONTROL.”
