Maarssen, 26 mei, 2004 - Fujitsu Siemens Computers presenteert voor het MKB twee nieuwe storage solutions. De nieuwe telgen, met de naam FibreCAT AX100, zijn ontworpen om networked storage te vereenvoudigen en te vergemakkelijken. De huidige backup- en managementmogelijkheden die binnen het MKB veelal gebruikt worden voor storage zijn namelijk zeer complex in gebruik en maken 'disaster recovery' praktisch onmogelijk.
De FibreCAT AX100 is geschikt voor bedrijven met meer dan 500 werknemers en is vanaf juni beschikbaar via de channel partners. De twee nieuwe FibreCAT AX100-modellen bieden 1 Terabyte opslagcapaciteit voor minder dan 6000 euro (excl. BTW).

This compact solution, with its small 2U form factor, brings the advantages of networked storage functionality to a broader market. The FibreCAT AX100 is easy to manage, allowing users to perform routine maintenance on their own. It also offers high security standards, such as recovery functions, is widely scalable, and offers cross platform support for Windows, Linux and Novell based systems, allowing it to grow along with business needs.
The AX100 combines the flexibility and performance of FibreCAT RAID array technology with a user-friendly management environment and the cost-per-gigabyte advantages of Serial ATA disk drives. It thus provides a practical solution for the economical consolidation of departmental and workgroup server storage. With the performance and flexibility of Fibre Channel host interconnect, the AX100 can be used as the basis for either shared direct attached storage (DAS) or to make an affordable entry into storage area networks (SANs).
Five key elements
The AX100 builds on the unique advantages of the FibreCAT's proven architecture, continuous availability/data integrity, comprehensive replication capabilities, powerful management, and affordability. To reduce total cost of ownership, development efforts focused on five key issues:
- Ease of use: all software required to set up and manage the AX100 is included with the array and is preinstalled. Navisphere Express is a user-friendly, web based graphical user interface that simplifies and streamlines setup and management of the array. Installation documentation and array software are also included and will be made available in localized versions.
- Customer installation and maintenance: installation and maintenance can be performed by the customers themselves, meaning servicing is simple and inexpensive. Optional spares kits can be purchased and kept onsite to reduce service response time.
- High availability and data integrity: despite its new hardware design, the AX100 retains the redundancy features of FibreCAT architecture. It is powered by the FLARE operating environment to deliver superior data integrity features.
- Low cost DAS and SAN connectivity: the AX100 supports DAS and SAN connections to many popular server operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and Novell. In addition to products from HBA (Host Bus Adapter) suppliers Qlogic and Emulex and SAN switchmaker Brocade that are already certified, there will also be low-cost product versions from these vendors certified on the AX100.
- Networked storage at SCSI JBOD prices: with its new cost-effective packaging and Serial ATA disk drives, the AX100 is an economical alternative to SCSI JBOD trays and small SCSI arrays, and so opens the door to networked storage operation. The cost effectiveness of this new storage solution enables users to consolidate low-end internal disk capacity and low-end DAS on the AX100 with the result being better performance, availability, and functionality.
New entry models: the FibreCAT AX100 and AX100SC
While both FibreCAT AX100 models support 160 GB and 250 GB 7,200 RPM S-ATA drives which can be configured with RAID-5 protection, they differ in the following ways:
- The FibreCAT AX100SC: the single controller (SC) version of the AX100 is the new entry-level model in the FibreCAT product family. With limited redundancy, this model is designed to achieve consolidated storage at the price of internal storage. It provides a "data-in-place" upgrade path to the fully redundant AX100 model.
- The FibreCAT AX100: the dual controller (DC) version also comes with fully redundant components, avoiding a single point of failure while providing non-disruptive maintenance capabilities.
With the AX100 systems, the latest additions to its FibreCAT product family, Fujitsu Siemens Computers continues to hold the lead in mid-tier networked storage, offering the broadest range of capabilities while still maintaining unique compatibility.
