Announcing Oculan v5.0, the world’s first appliances for the IT masses to manage and secure their networks, their Microsoft, and the technologies in between. Finally, the ‘missing link’ is found to unify management of Microsoft AND non-Microsoft technologies through one interface...simply and affordably.
RALEIGH, NC (May 5, 2004) – Can the complexity of managing mission-critical Microsoft environments ever be simplified? Will a Great Divide forever separate management of an organization’s Microsoft investments from management of its non-Microsoft platforms and network infrastructure?
Today, the missing link is found and the Microsoft management “beast” is tamed. Introducing the release of Oculan 5.0, the world’s first plug-and-play appliances for managing both Microsoft and non-Microsoft network environments, and at a fraction of the cost and complexity of all the alternatives. Oculan® is a Microsoft® Windows® Embedded Partner.
“With Oculan 5.0, we are raising the bar for outstanding IT management even higher. We are bringing together for the first time two different worlds, the world of Microsoft and the world of other technology vendors, into one management and security solution,” said Robert Davis, President and CEO of Oculan.
Oculan’s multi-functional platform integrates network, systems and desktop management, intrusion detection, vulnerability assessment, asset management, and bandwidth analysis plus produces network performance reports, notifications and alerts. With 5.0, the same platform can now manage and secure Microsoft SQL Server, Exchange, Active Directory, and Terminal Services, as well as Windows® servers and desktops. Other platforms like Unix, Linux and AS400 servers are also supported by Oculan 5.0. Click here to read the Oculan 5.0 data sheet
“With its 5.0 release, Oculan continues its tradition of addressing real IT infrastructure management needs of the small to medium-size (SMB) business environment,” said Lisa Erickson-Harris, research director with Enterprise Management Associates (EMA), an analyst firm specializing in the management of IT infrastructure. “By integrating these key Microsoft management capabilities into its platform, Oculan has again tapped into an important requirement for the SMB market and is moving towards ‘bridging the divide’ to consolidate management of Microsoft and non-Microsoft environments in a single solution.”
Starting at just $4,995, Oculan’s latest ‘purple box’ enables organizations with limited IT budgets to establish control over their entire IT infrastructure, including its Microsoft components. For larger companies with many different management tools already in place, Oculan 5.0 unifies those tools into one system with one view.
"We have many clients who battle constantly with the challenge of managing their Microsoft applications and servers. It's their number one IT challenge,” said Jim Lyon, IT Analyst with Integrits Corporation, an IT service provider in San Diego, California. “With Oculan 5.0, they get a scalable and cost-effective solution that can be tailored to meet their specific network management needs."
The 5.0 platform delivers Inventory, Performance, and Availability information for the entire infrastructure. For Microsoft servers, 5.0 provides the added capabilities to automatically restart “dead” services, plus start and stop those services from a single console at a remote location. Two new features, an “Executive View” and a “Network Report Card”, provide managers with summary information on network security and performance. Oculan’s reporting features have also been greatly expanded, enabling users to export a wide variety of network and inventory data into XML or Excel or other 3rd party software.
