Amsterdam, 10 Maart 2004, - Network Associates, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the leading provider of intrusion prevention solutions, today announced a partnership with IBM to deliver on-demand computingcapabilities. As part of IBM's Orchestration and Provisioning Automation Library (OPAL), the Network Associates McAfee intrusion prevention technology will integrate with IBM's Tivoli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator to allow users to automate the provisioning of McAfee security functionality.
Network Associates is the only security vendor included in IBM's OPAL initiative.
"IBM recognizes that cyber-security is a top priority for businesses and we turned to industry leader Network Associates to support our OPAL initiative," said Sandra Cooper, vice president of marketing for IBM Tivoli.
"Through this partnership we will deliver enhanced security functionality to our customers to protect them against vulnerabilities and threats."
Computer security threats are continuing to increase in complexity and frequency and it is essential for organizations to deploy comprehensive security functionality. There is an increased demand for computing power when security technologies are active, such as during an attack. Through this OPAL initiative, Network Associates will provide customers with the capability to proactively and automatically apply resources as needed for the McAfee VirusScan and McAfee Entercept intrusion prevention technology to protect customers' mission critical systems and applications. The integration with McAfee VirusScan and McAfee Entercept will be available in the second half of the year.
"With computer security attacks such as the recent Mydoom virus proliferating globally within minutes, customers need to be able to proactively manage the multi-layered security infrastructure required to ensure network and business availability," said Vincent Rossi, senior vice president of product management for the McAfee System Security Group at Network Associates. "Building on the integration of Network Associates' leading intrusion prevention technologies with the IBM Tivoli Intelligent ThinkDynamic Orchestrator, we are working with IBM to develop workflows that will allow customers to automatically provision security infrastructure to minimize the impact of an attack and protect their systems and networks."
The goal of IBM's OPAL initiative is to foster an ecosystem of partners to share IT best practices and collaborate on building a broad portfolio of workflows for storage, network infrastructure, server platforms, applications, and middleware, as well as workflows for specific industries such as banking and finance, retail, healthcare or government. OPAL also includes an online catalog that serves as a collaborative network where business partners and customers can share and obtain information on workflows that have been reviewed and validated by IBM. The inclusion of Network Associates' McAfee Security intrusion prevention technology enhances the value of IBM's on-demand initiative and reduces customers' risk and total cost of ownership.
