SAN FRANCISCO (February 24, 2004) – Critical Path, Inc. (Nasdaq: CPTH), a global provider of digital communications software and services, today announced that its messaging infrastructure technology has been built into MMS services offered by more than 60 carriers around the world. The company’s software is part of a variety of highly scalable mobile data applications used in services such as MMS, Mobile Email and Next Generation Voicemail by millions of subscribers in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. In addition, Critical Path announced that it is demonstrating its new MMS Composer application and connectivity with BlackBerry® wireless devices at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France in the company’s exhibition Stand J3 in Hall 3. The new Critical Path solutions enable carriers to offer rich, easy-to-use services that drive mobile data usage by consumers, mobile professionals and small businesses.
Critical Path’s messaging infrastructure and MMS applications give carriers the ability to jump-start MMS adoption and drive more value from their existing MMSC systems. The company’s new MMS Composer, which is being demonstrated at 3GSM this week, gives subscribers a web-based interface for creating and sending multimedia messages. With it, subscribers can select images and audio files, annotate them with text, arrange them using drag-and-drop, preview and then send the messages in MMS’s standard SMIL format. The MMS Composer complements Critical Path’s MMS Album, which lets subscribers store MMS messages from their phone handsets or upload them from their desktop. In addition, the MMS Album makes it easy for subscribers to share multimedia files over the Web, stimulating usage of MMS messages even by people who don’t have MMS phones or wireless devices.
Critical Path’s Mobile Email enables carriers to target mobile professionals and small businesses with integrated email, personal information management, synchronization and push capabilities. The Critical Path software supports a wide range of devices, including mobile phones, smartphones, PDAs, and desktop computers. To illustrate the extensibility of its solutions, Critical Path is demonstrating connectivity between its services and BlackBerry® wireless devices at 3GSM this week. Attendees can see examples of how carriers can offer value-added services that are easy to use, stimulating subscribers to try, use and pay for mobile data.
“Critical Path’s messaging infrastructure helps carriers move beyond Email and SMS to new applications like MMS, Mobile Email and Next Generation Voicemail,” said Michael Serbinis, chief technology officer at Critical Path. “Our MMS and Mobile Email applications provide an enhanced user experience for subscribers, which in turn boosts loyalty, stimulates consumption and drives additional mobile data revenues.”
Critical Path’s MMS and Mobile Email build upon the proven scalability, reliability and customizability of the Critical Path Communications Platform. This underlying software, which is available both as licensed software and as hosted services, offers a broad set of integrated components – including email, address books, calendars, dynamic alerts, shared files, centralized profile management, multi-modal access, and end-to-end synchronization – that can be customized and tailored to the needs of multiple market segments from a single platform. As a result, wireless and wireline carriers can cut costs and time-to-market for delivering new, differentiated revenue-generating services to consumers, mobile professionals and small businesses.
