Internet Security Systems' RealSecure Server Sensor Receives Microsoft Windows Certification through VeriTest
~ RealSecure Server Sensor One of the First Host-based Intrusion Protection Systems to Obtain Certification ~
ATLANTA - December 2, 2003 - Internet Security Systems, Inc. (ISS) (Nasdaq: ISSX) today announced that its RealSecure® Server Sensor 7.0 intrusion protection software has received six Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 Server certifications through VeriTest, the testing division of Lionbridge Technologies (Nasdaq: LIOX) and the authorized worldwide lab to test enterprise applications for Microsoft's "Certified for Windows" program. This rigorous test is endorsed for business-critical applications by analysts and enterprise customers alike because it verifies features and functionality that make applications more robust and manageable. RealSecure Server Sensor is one of the first host-based intrusion protection systems (IPS) to obtain this certification.
"By certifying RealSecure Server Sensor 7.0 for these six Windows Server platforms, ISS gives their customers an additional reason to be confident in choosing this product," said Katrina Teague, Vice President of Marketing and Solutions, VeriTest. "Microsoft's Windows Server application specification, which is the foundation for the testing process, is quite demanding, making this a significant accomplishment for ISS and a significant benefit to their customers in terms of product reliability and supportability."
The "Certified for Windows" program establishes an unprecedented technical standard to identify applications that are secure and manageable, and that run reliably on the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems. Applications certified for Windows deliver features, like roaming user support and simplified install and uninstall, by taking advantage of reliability and manageability capabilities. Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 Server certified applications have both higher reliability and lower cost of ownership than non-certified applications.
RealSecure Server Sensor has been certified on the following Microsoft Windows platforms:
- Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
- Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
- Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition
- Windows 2000 Server
- Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Windows 2000 Datacenter Server

Host Protection with RealSecure Server Sensor RealSecure Server Sensor prevents malicious and unauthorized activity from interrupting business operations by protecting computer systems, application files and network services. Based on behavior, it actively blocks buffer overflow, malformed packets, root access and other attack methods. Additional features of RealSecure Server Sensor include:
Intrusion Prevention - Combination of protocol analysis and the most extensive security knowledgebase in existence providing the most accurate detection necessary to prevent attacks.
Behavior-Based Blocking - Actively blocks buffer overflow, malformed packets, root access and other attack methods based on behavior.
Event Correlation and Attack Analysis - Instantly correlates and analyzes attack patterns, providing a real-time diagnosis of "real attacks," and fully integrated to perform these actions in conjunction with network-based attacks.
Elimination of False Positives and False Negatives - Prevents the misidentification of attacks, eliminating false positives and false negatives. Also identifies malicious behavior before such behavior can cause damage.
Centralized Management Through ISS SiteProtector(tm) Management Console- Enables the aggregation, correlation, analysis and management of data, preventing event propagation. Provides centralized means to deploy, manage and update complex server environments.
Supports Multiple Platforms - RealSecure Server Sensor supports multiple operating systems, including Windows, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX and Linux.
