SAN FRANCISCO — (November 24, 2003) — Critical Path, Inc. (Nasdaq: CPTH), a global leader in digital communications software and services, today announced that William Smartt, an industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience as a chief financial officer, has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately. He is taking over the financial responsibilities previously held by Paul Bartlett, who has served as the Company's Chief Financial Officer since February 2003 and Chief Operating Officer since August 2003. Mr. Smartt reports directly to William McGlashan, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Smartt brings an extensive background in financial and corporate management to the Company. He was the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of DHL Airways, where he led the company's entry into e-commerce and was responsible for a broad spectrum of functions ranging from finance, legal, human resources, and information systems to risk management as well as airline and network security. Prior to that, Mr. Smartt held the chief financial officer positions at Ingres Corporation, which he took from start-up to almost $200 million in annual revenues, and at Di Giorgio Corporation, a Fortune 500 multi-national conglomerate with annual sales of more than $1 billion. He is on the board of directors of Versata, a publicly held software company, and is Chairman of their audit committee. Mr. Smartt is a CPA and holds a bachelor degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.
