LEADING MARKET RESEARCH FIRM NAMES IBM NUMBER ONE SERVER VENDOR IN THE WORLD

 IN Q203 IBM Outperforms HP and Dell In Key Server Segments

ARMONK, N.Y., August 29, 2003 --  International Data Corporation (IDC) reported today that IBM is the number one server vendor in the world for the second quarter of 2003, with 30.4 percent of the market based on factory revenue.

IDC data shows that IBM gained world wide revenue share year to year in key market segments in the second quarter of 2003, as compared to the same quarter last year.

In overall servers, IBM gained 2.7 points of worldwide revenue share year to year in the second quarter and gained nearly 5 points quarter to quarter, significantly outperforming the rest of the market in both measures.

In UNIX servers, IBM gained 5.2 points of worldwide share in the second quarter year to year and grew revenue 20.4 percent.

In the x86 server market, IBM gained 2.1 points of worldwide share year to year and grew revenue 23.7 percent significantly outpacing Dell and HP in terms of revenue growth.

In Linux servers, IBM grew its market share by nearly 1.6 points of share year to year, while HP and Dell both lost points of share year to year. IBM grew revenue year to year by 51.8 percent in Linux year over year.
