Armonk, New York, July 21st, 2003: IBM today announced that the memorandum of understanding signed with Ericsson in June has resulted in a contract to manage and develop Ericsson's portfolio of IT software applications across the globe. Under the five-year deal, IBM will continue the consolidation and optimization of Ericsson's internal IT applications environment.
Under the agreement, IBM will develop, roll-out and maintain Ericsson's applications portfolio that supports Ericsson's operations worldwide.
"Through IBM Business Consulting Services and Application Management Services, IBM has a deep understanding and broad expertise in application management," said Doug Elix, Senior Vice President and Group Executive, IBM Global Services. "We will use our in-depth experience to help Ericsson transform and enhance the software applications that support its worldwide operations."
"Outsourcing of services for IT applications is part of Ericsson's ongoing changes within the IS/IT area, and our overall restructuring program aiming at radically reducing the operating expenses and cost of sales," said Per-Arne Sandström, deputy chief executive officer at Ericsson.
The agreement includes the transfer of the employees globally at Ericsson Process and Application Consulting to IBM. The transition will start in September.
