Regional government of Madrid launches its new portal, Madrid.org, on Vignette in 110 days to its 1.4 million constituents
Spanish Government Organization Implements Leading Content Management and Portal Solution To Streamline Costs and Meet EU Government Directives
AUSTIN, Texas - July 3, 2003 - The Regional Government of Madrid recently launched its new portal, Madrid.org, on the Vignette content management and portal platform in 110 days. The portal enables the organization to meet government directives to provide online services to its 1.4 million constituents, as well as enabling it to consolidate all departmental Web initiatives onto one platform to streamline costs, increase productivity and easily reuse content across multiple Web sites.
Vignette was selected because it enables the government organization to rapidly deploy multiple Web sites, has delegated management capabilities and is highly scalable. The Vignette solution's proven quality and reliability, and its fast implementation time, combined with strong project management from Informática El Corte Inglés, were among the reasons the Regional Government of Madrid selected it as its portal and content management platform for e-government initiatives.
A key priority for the portal is to ensure that it meets new European legal directives to ensure that content provided on the Web site is accessible to all constituents by Dec. 31, 2005. To date, the government's primary site, www.madrid.org; information-specific portals covering the 11 governmental departments; Housing, the Regional Government of Madrid's Official Gazette Web site; the online magazine datospersonales.org; and an e-mail listing subscription service have been rolled out across the Vignette platform.
"We are extremely pleased to be working with the Regional Government of Madrid to quickly deliver a portal solution that will enable it to meet EU government requirements while reducing administration costs and increasing employee productivity," said Tim Wort, vice president and general manager of Vignette EMEA. "The project illustrates a number of key buying trends we are seeing across Europe in which customers are looking for ways to consolidate their Web initiatives as well as reusing content to reduce costs and increase productivity."
The public tender was awarded to Informática El Corte Inglés, in October 2002, together with Vignette's Professional Services team. Further projects will include an intranet for employees as well as other constituent service portals.
"Creating a tool that generates a framework of portals and content management on Vignette's platform allows the Regional Government of Madrid to reuse components and content to develop a great number of e-initiatives or services in less time and at a lower cost, with consistent quality," said Juan José Pradales, manager of the eBusiness Division at Informática El Corte Inglés S.A. "The project has been carried out by a multidisciplinary team of aproximately 50 consultants, including graphic designers, information architects, usability and accesibility specialists, content consultants, development engineers and systems engineers."

The Spanish Department for Foreign Trade relaunches its ICEX.es portal on Vignette
Leading Portal and Content Management Platform Enables ICEX to Rapidly Deploy New International Business Initiatives, Including Industry-Themed Portals, to Meet Policy Directives and Reduce Costs
AUSTIN, Texas - July 7, 2003 - The Spanish Department for Foreign Trade, known as ICEX, has relaunched its portal, ICEX.es, using Vignette portal and content management solutions to rapidly deploy industry-specific portals, drive international business initiatives and reduce costs. The portal framework enables the government agency to meet its policy directives in promoting and delivering services to open up Spanish business to foreign countries.
By selecting a Vignette solution ICEX derives cost and productivity benefits from the repurposing and reuse of content that is aggregated from multiple sources across the organization. The government agency is using Vignette's observation and analytics capabilities to identify and promote new international markets to Spanish companies via industry-specific portals. The solution's personalization capability also enables relevant information to be targeted at individual users and companies to improve user loyalty.
The platform's scalability, reliability and proven track record, together with outstanding project management from Informática El Corte Inglés, SA (IECISA), also contributed to the government agency's selection of Vignette. IECISA worked with Vignette Professional Services to deliver the project.
"The need to work with several types of constituents and organizations, which require different messages and information, made it a must to have a multiportal solution that allows us to efficiently manage and target them with the appropriate content," said Carlos Gómez García, general manager for Information and Investments at ICEX. "Vignette enables the rapid and cost-effective deployment of a network of industry-specific portals that provides relevant services to Spanish customers, as we were doing with the original ICEX.es portal, and extend this to importers and distributors of Spanish products abroad."
"Our work with ICEX again demonstrates Vignette's strength in rapidly deploying award-winning solutions to the public sector," said Tim Wort, vice president and general manager of EMEA at Vignette. "As with private enterpises, government organizations are realizing the cost and productivty benefits of using our leading content management and portal solutions to repurpose and reuse content from multiple sources."
"Creating a tool that generates a framework of portals and content management on Vignette's platform allows ICEX to reuse service components and content to rapidly develop a great number of e-initiatives (services) in less time and at a reduced cost, with consistent quality," said Juan José Pradales, manager of the eBusiness Division at Informática IECISA. "These innovative services enable the government organization to use the Internet to complement traditional methods of communicating with its key constituents."
