Salt Lake City-April 9, 2003 - LANDesk Software, the leader in integrated desktop, server and device management software, today announced a new software distribution solution for the Apple® Macintosh® OS X version 10.2 "Jaguar," as well as expanded inventory and remote control support for Mac OS versions 8, 9 and 10. With this increased Mac support, LANDesk® will enable corporations to centrally manage the Mac OS-based machines along with the other platforms in their enterprise networks.
Many IT administrators at corporations with both Mac and PC systems have struggled to manage Macintosh machines because they have been unable to inventory, distribute software or provide help desk support through remote control capabilities because of the inherent difficulties in communicating between two environments.

Expanded Mac OS Management Features
IT administrators can manage their PC machines, legacy Mac OS versions 8 and 9 and new Mac systems running OS X from the same familiar LANDesk Web-based or Windows console. Mac systems appear in the network view and can be included in software distribution, inventory support and remote control.
- Software Distribution. A new aspect of LANDesk's support for the Macintosh is the capability for Mac OS X machines to be inventoried and targeted for software distribution. When IT managers need to transfer an update to an application or send out the latest security or virus patch, they no longer need to manually visit each Mac machine. All the familiar distribution features like drag and drop scheduling and status reporting are available to IT managers who are responsible for supporting the Apple environment.
- Inventory Support. LANDesk enables IT administrators to scan inventory information on Mac OS 8, 9 and 10 computers with a new inventory scanner that collects new and expanded data, including USB, Firewire® and PCI device information. IT managers can run inventory queries and reports to get an accurate account of all hardware and software in their environment.
- Remote Control. LANDesk's improved remote control performance on Mac OS machines now has virtually no latency. IT managers can remote control, file transfer, and chat to Macintosh computers faster than ever before on the corporate network.
