Helsinki, Finland – February 11, 2003 – Flander Ltd, a Finland-based mobile technology company, today announced the commercial availability of IrmaTM Bluetooth Presentation Accessory. The pocketsize Irma (Infrared Mobile Accessory) wireless device connects Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones and PDAs with a data projector, turning the handheld devices into full-fledged presentation tools.
Irma presentation accessory enables showing PowerPoint slides stored in a handheld device with a data projector. The slides can be switched from meters away using a Bluetooth connection. Irma is compatible with several Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices such as Nokia 7650 and 3650, HP iPaq 3870 and 3970, and SonyEricsson P800.
Connected via Bluetooth to the mobile device and via a regular VGA cable to a data projector, Irma is extremely easy to use and quick to activate. In addition, the pocketsize presentation tool is easy to carry along at all times (dimensions 99 x 90 x 25 mm, weight 110 g excluding external power supply).
For salespeople, executives, consultants and other professionals giving presentations while on the move, Irma provides an easy means to show PowerPoint slideshows. Compared to regular laptop PCs, Irma switches on immediately, is significantly smaller and lighter, and provides a cost efficient alternative for Bluetooth-enabled device users.
In addition to PowerPoint presentations, Irma is able to transmit all kinds of still images. With Irma’s screen capture feature, digital photos taken with a camera phone can be transferred to Irma and shown with a data projector within seconds. The presentation size is virtually unlimited. Mobile devices have enough memory to store several presentations.
“Compared to infrared connection used in previous Irma versions, Bluetooth gives more freedom to the user in the setting of the presentation scene. The slides may be changed from several meters away, and the mobile device does not need to point directly to Irma. We expect this improved convenience and user-friendliness of the Bluetooth-enabled Irma to further increase the extremely positive feedback and interest we have received for the first Irma versions”, said Mika Heikinheimo, CEO of Flander Ltd.
When using Irma, PowerPoint presentations are first converted to sets of JPEG images on a PC and then saved in the mobile device. The process is carried out in a few seconds with easy-to-use Irma Suite software, requiring only a few mouse clicks. The mobile device is equipped with Irma Client software, which delivers the images via Bluetooth to Irma and further to the data projector.
With an auto-replay feature, Irma enables automated, continuous slideshows frequently used at exhibition stands, store display windows, etc. Once the presentation is transferred to Irma and the device is set into a self-operating mode, the Bluetooth connection may be disabled and the presentation continued utilizing Irma’s cache memory. This feature enhances corporate security, as handheld devices do not need to be left unattended while slideshow is running.
Irma Bluetooth Presentation Accessory is distributed internationally through qualified mobile phone and PDA accessory dealers, and directly through the manufacturer web site at www.corporatekeys.com with most credit cards. Irma Bluetooth is priced at 345 euros in the Benelux area (excluding VAT and delivery costs).
Some devices (e.g. HP iPaq 3850/3950, HP Jornada 568) may require a separate Bluetooth card and software to enable the Bluetooth connection with Irma. Irma is also available in Infrared-connected versions optimized for Nokia 9210/9210i/9290 Communicator and Pocket PC 2002 operated handheld computers.
