SAN FRANCISCO (January 30, 2003) — Critical Path Inc. (Nasdaq: CPTH), a global leader in digital communications software and services, today announced that Wind Telecomunicazioni SpA, Italy's largest Internet Service Provider (ISP), has extended its relationship with Critical Path to allow it to support up to 20 million mailboxes and user profiles. The new agreement doubles the number of messaging licenses Wind has purchased to 20 million, and also gives it the capability to manage user identities through the purchase of 20 million directory licenses. Wind will also be implementing the Critical Path™ Notification Server to alert subscribers to new issues of its customer newsletter.
Wind has been using Critical Path's messaging software since 1999. A steady increase in the number of users has driven the company to expand its services, optimizing performance, minimizing TCO and guaranteeing high added value communications services. The new agreement also provides for complete migration from the messaging platform used by it.Net, Wind's business Internet company, to the Critical Path™ Messaging Server.
Wind is also leveraging the Critical Path Directory Server as a central repository to more easily distribute and manage user profiles and security credentials across many different locations. In addition, Critical Path provides Wind with enhanced directory schema management that simplifies the integration with third-party security solutions. The Critical Path™ Directory Server is capable of scaling to multimillion entries while delivering sub-second response times with hundreds of queries per second.
Wind said Critical Path's low total cost of ownership and value-added services offerings have enabled them to consistently beat the competition. Since the migration to Critical Path, Wind has significantly expanded its business, blossoming to 10 million users in just three years. Additionally, the Critical Path Messaging Server enabled Wind to offer end users the convenience and flexibility of IMAP4 and Web access to email.
"The new agreement with Wind reaffirms an existing partnership and demonstrates Critical Path's growing competitiveness and constant commitment to supplying increasingly complete, flexible messaging solutions," said Mario Bobba, vice president of Critical Path for Southern Europe.
Wind originally selected the Critical Path messaging server based on its scalability and low total cost of ownership. Critical Path's integrated solutions position Wind for continued success with a solid foundation on which to deliver value-added services, such as advanced personal information management (PIM) tools, that will generate increased revenue and customer loyalty.
The Critical Path Notification Server provides for a single conduit for creating and managing events that users wish to be alerted to via email, SMS or instant message, to mobile phone, PDA or desktop PC. For carriers and service providers, robust notification capabilities can serve to improve overall customer satisfaction, encourage cross-application usage, lower service and support costs, as well as generate incremental revenues from increased network traffic.
