REDWOOD CITY, Calif.—January 9, 2003 — BroadVision, Inc. (Nasdaq: BVSN), the leading provider of enterprise business portal applications and content management solutions, today announced the release of BroadVisionâ QuickSilverä 1.6, a full-featured software package for creating and publishing expansive documents in multiple output formats (including HTML, PDF, PostScript and ASCII) across a variety of platforms and networks.
Hundreds of industry leaders including Bausch & Lomb, Boeing, Ford, Lufthansa, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, and the U.S. Postal Service are using BroadVision QuickSilver to automate and streamline the process of creating and publishing complex documents.
Key features of the new release include enhanced macro tools and hyperlink capabilities. With the new macro capability, after creating multi-level Tables of Content (TOCs) and indexes, macros can be developed to do repetitive tasks such as TOC clean-up or search-and-replace across an entire book or multiple documents. With the new hyperlink capability, after publishing a document to a PDF, hyperlinks remain active.
Lufthansa Technical Training's business is to provide technical training for aircraft mechanics, not only for Lufthansa, but also for airlines and aircraft maintenance organizations around the globe. To perform certain service or maintenance tasks on an aircraft, the mechanic is required to hold specific qualifications. The maintenance organizations' certification by national aviation authorities depends on the appropriate qualifications of its technical staff. More than 260 customers worldwide -- airlines, maintenance, repair and overhaul organizations as well as aircraft, engine and component manufacturers -- have entrusted their personnel to Lufthansa Technical Training.
"QuickSilver is the ideal solution for us,” said Dieter Wiegand, IT Manager, Lufthansa Technical Training. "All the necessary tools are integrated into one common, comfortable, template-based environment, so our training authors and editors can concentrate on content rather than wasting time on layout. With the conditional content feature, all authoring is done on a common source document and variants for different courses are automatically and consistently updated from that -- a very intelligent method to reduce revision time, cost and effort. We will rely on the new PDF and HTML publishing features in QuickSilver 1.6 to meet increasing customer demand to deliver training manuals on CD, and to the macro recorder for automating our routine authoring tasks."
“BroadVision QuickSilver has a proven track record across multiple industries for reducing time to market and the costs associated with creating, publishing and updating large, technical documents,” said Sanjay Gupta, senior vice president of marketing and alliances. “This release reflects our ongoing commitment to the QuickSilver product line and to QuickSilver customers.”
