Capelle aan den IJssel, December 11, 2002 – The Progress Company, a business unit of Progress Software Corporation (Nasdaq: PRGS) and a leading supplier of technology for building business applications, today announced Progress DynamicsÔ 2.0, a framework for rapidly delivering competitive business applications that enhances a developer’s ability to rapidly adjust business logic, user presentation and even screen-layout changes without altering source code. As the application environment for the OpenEdgeÔ business platform, Progress Dynamics is designed to accelerate the development, assembly and deployment of distributed business systems and reduce the time it takes to bring them to market.
Progress Dynamics differentiates itself from traditional application frameworks by storing application objects and their properties in a repository rather than source programs, reducing the amount of code developers need to write and debug, and allowing applications to be dynamically generated at runtime. By leveraging existing application components through Progress Dynamics, customers and ISVs (independent software vendors) have increased development productivity, as well as reduced the financial investment required to take advantage of new business opportunities afforded by the demand to incorporate support for emerging technologies such as Web services.
User interface (UI) independence and repository support for developing, configuring and deploying a wide range of clients such as web browser and traditional GUI (graphical user interface) are just some of the latest enhancements to Progress Dynamics 2.0. This extension provides customers the ability to freely switch client types based on their preferences, without changing a single line of business logic, while still allowing them to dynamically generate applications with multiple interfaces.
“Typically, supporting multiple user interfaces is a costly and time-consuming exercise. The web browser solution delivered with Progress Dynamics means developers who must support both thin web browser clients and feature-rich UI’s have a cost-effective solution,” said Peter Sliwkowski, vice president of products for Progress Software. “Our goal is to provide our customers with the flexibility they need to rapidly deliver the world’s best business applications. UI independence dramatically reduces the time and cost of creating applications while enabling the user to develop once and deploy anywhere.”
With Progress Dynamics 2.0, developers also get enhanced visual development capabilities and templates that speed initial creation of business applications and further simplify ongoing modifications through dynamically generated objects. It provides a single environment for building distributed enterprise applications that can be deployed against multiple types of application databases. Since its initial introduction in December of 2001, more than 100 Progress customers, such as Epicor Software, DataSwiss, BravePoint, Proteus Software, Reflecta and Carrier Logistics, have used Progress Dynamics to develop new applications and reduce their development time by as much as 60 percent.
