Dublin, Ireland – November 20, 2002 – AEP Systems, a supplier of e-Security and Acceleration hardware products, and F5 Networks Inc., the leading provider of Application Traffic Management products, announce a partnership to provide a fast, secure and scaleable solution for blade servers.
“Blade servers effectively address the problem of limited space, high energy costs and complex hardware management,” said AEP Systems CEO, Pat Donnellan. “The AEP Systems and F5 Networks solution extends the benefits of the blade server design by ensuring that the servers and applications are always available, secure and are performing optimally.”
“With network-wide security requirements escalating, customers increasingly rely on SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) acceleration to secure their business applications,” said John Bigelow, Vice President and General Manager, F5 Networks software business. “By deploying the BIG-IP® Blade Controller with the AEP SureWare Runner 1000 IDE accelerator card, customers can optimise their entire blade server environment, while increasing their site performance and its ability to scale SSL transactions. This adds up to a compelling ROI for any customer deploying blade servers.”
AEP Systems’ AEP SureWare Runner 1000 IDE is optimized to work with F5 Networks’ BIG-IP® Blade Controller software. AEP’s accelerator card offloads the most processor intensive functions of the SSL protocol, significantly reducing the load on web and application servers. Only a single SSL certificate needs to be placed on the BIG-IP Blade Controller when offloading SSL, eliminating the need for an individual SSL license per server. In addition, the BIG-IP Blade Controller ensures high availability of applications with its unique Extended Application Verification (EAV) health-checking feature. EAV ensures that traffic is directed only to the applications that are responding properly.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers is the first blade server manufacturer to adopt the AEP Systems/F5 blade server solution. The Fujitsu Siemens Computers' PRIMERGY BX300 Blade Server, with its extreme density targeted specifically at server farms such as large Web server and applications server scenarios, is a good fit for the AEP Systems and F5 blade server solution.
