Critical Path Joins the Open Mobile Alliance

SAN FRANCISCO — (November 6, 2002) Critical Path, Inc. (Nasdaq: CPTH), a global leader in digital communications software and services, today announced that it has joined the Open Mobile Alliance, an industry forum established to grow the market for the entire mobile industry. Critical Path has been an active participant in driving standards for the mobile industry since February 2002, when it joined Wireless Village, the industry initiative formed to define and promote a set of universal specifications for mobile instant messaging and presence services (IMPS). In early October, the Wireless Village initiative consolidated into the Open Mobile Alliance (www.openmobilealliance.org).

"The standards processes being advanced by the Open Mobile Alliance in conjunction with Wireless Village are key to industry-wide adoption of wireless instant messaging and presence technologies," said Michael Serbinis, chief technology officer at Critical Path. "Critical Path is committed to leading the development of these standards, while continuing to deliver highly scalable, high-performance servers with the lowest total cost of ownership. Our technology will interoperate with a range of communications solutions including Critical Path's Personal Information Management (PIM), Unified Messaging (UM), Short Message Service (SMS), Notification and Internet File Sharing solutions."
In July, Critical Path announced its Instant Messaging (IM) and presence solution for wireless carriers and service providers, the first carrier-class, secure IM product built to support industry standards such as SIP/SIMPLE, Wireless Village and SSL/TLS. By supporting SIP/SIMPLE, Critical Path's IM solution enables cross-network communication by facilitating interoperability with other IM and telephony systems. In early October, Critical Path participated in interoperability testing conducted between various mobile device clients and servers developed by several Wireless Village supporters.

In addition to its role in the Open Mobile Alliance and the Wireless Village Initiative, Critical Path is actively involved in a number of mobile and Internet standards bodies, including: The Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) (www.oasis-open.org), The Open Group (www.opengroup.org) and Java Community Process (JCP) (www.jcp.org).

About the Wireless Village Initiative
Founded by Ericsson, Motorola, and Nokia, Wireless Village, the mobile Instant Messaging and Presence Services (IMPS) initiative, was formed in April 2001 to define and promote a set of universal specifications for mobile instant messaging and presence services. The specifications will be used for exchanging messages and presence information between mobile devices, mobile services and Internet-based instant messaging services, all interoperable and leveraging existing Internet technologies. Through its Supporters, the Wireless Village initiative is building a vibrant community of users, mobile operators and global business partners where Internet and wireless domains converge. For more information on the Wireless Village initiative, how to join the Wireless Village initiative, details of technical specifications and more, visit
