- Provides global Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) leader with greater flexibility of communication across the enterprise and with customers
- Invensys solution reduces Business Object Interface development time from over two weeks to just one day
Voorthuizen - September 12, 2002 - Baan, the leading enterprise application provider for industrial enterprises and part of Invensys plc, has implemented its iBaan OpenWorld integration framework solution set at Flextronics, the global leader in Electronics Manufacturing Services. The iBaan OpenWorld Adapter, Gateway, Broker and Studio Developer applications provide Flextronics with a standardized architecture for enterprise-wide connectivity to the company's ERP systems, increasing reliability and reducing maintenance and support. This will help Flextronics to further extend its support for online trading with customers and suppliers by automatically formatting all orders to help ensure compatibility with the company's iBaan Enterprise system and resolving customer sales and inventory queries in real-time.
The implementation of iBaan OpenWorld Studio has enabled Flextronics to reduce the labor-intensive task of writing traditional individual interfaces to support multi-system data transfer from two weeks, to just one day for testing and mapping. Flextronics has also started to build iBaan OpenWorld into its generic 'ERP Service' XML-based application that uses web server technology to transfer customer requested data in real-time between the company's core ERP system and those of the systems used by its customers.
Roger Yang, PhD, corporate development director at Flextronics said, "We were previously facing challenges posed by trying to interface our own Baan enterprise systems with those third party systems run by our customers. This involved a duplication of effort to adapt the systems and hundreds of customized interfaces. The implementation of iBaan OpenWorld has given reign to a whole new generation of connectivity functionality, delivering a standardized architecture for all systems to work with."
James Simpson, senior director, E-Business at Flextronics commented, "iBaan OpenWorld has offered us a more reliable interface. Whereas previously it was just not possible to perform real-time validation and we had very little visibility of process failures, we can now support data transfer from system to system. This gives us greater flexibility to communicate with our Baan systems, a significant reduction in Businss Object Interface
(BOI) development time, and most importantly, real-time response and data validation for our customer processes."
iBaan OpenWorld is part of the iBaan suite of Internet-enabled solutions that combines proven Baan technology with new developments to enable electronics customers to take significant steps towards seamlessly integrating systems and processes. It provides end-users with personalized and easy-to-use information, and empowers businesses to collaborate with their customers and suppliers over the Internet.
