FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.--July 16, 2002--Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq: CPWR) today announced financial results for its first quarter ended June 30, 2002.
Compuware reports first quarter revenues of $346.6 million, compared to $450.5 million in the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. Net income was $22.5 million from $34.4 million in the same quarter of fiscal 2002. Earnings per share (diluted computation) were 6 cents compared to 9 cents, based upon 378.5 million and 382.2 million shares outstanding, respectively.
During the company's first quarter, software license fees were $57.2 million, maintenance fees were $105.7 million and revenue from professional services was $183.8 million. "At over $95 million for the quarter, our cash flow from operations was good," said Joe Nathan, President, Compuware Corporation. "Our services business is once again profitable, with significantly improved margins from last quarter. In a demanding market for technology, Compuware is performing reasonably well."
First Quarter Fiscal Year 2003 Highlights
During the first quarter, Compuware:
- Reorganized its professional services operations to help ensure growth and profitability.
- Released the latest version of DevPartner Studio. This release of DevPartner features a distributed analyzer that helps locate problems and performance issues early in the application development cycle.
- Announced the general availability of Vantage 8. This latest version of Compuware's integrated suite of tools for application performance management includes new capabilities for monitoring the experiences of technology users as well as WAN provisioning and accelerated troubleshooting.
- Released Abend-AID Fault Manager 2.5. Fault Manager 2.5 gives IT professionals browser-based reporting capabilities. Additionally, the product provides automatic fault notification of all faults across the IT infrastructure and is integrated with leading helpdesk and framework products.
- Announced the availability of File-AID/Data Solutions 3.3. Through patent-pending technology, File-AID/Data Solutions addresses the growing concerns of customers about the security of their data during testing.
- Introduced the latest STROBE products for enterprise application performance management. Strobe 2.5 allows users to measure and track abnormal program activity, while iSTROBE enables interactive analysis of applications based on a number of industrial-grade environments, such as WebSphere MQ, CICS/TS, Visual Age for Java, DB2 and more.
- Made OptimalJ 2.1 generally available. The latest version of Compuware's software for increasing the productivity of Java developers contains pattern-editing functionality that helps developers jump-start their projects.
- Released XPEDITER/DevEnterprise 3.4. This product provides IT professionals with automated application analysis, giving them time- and money-saving insight into potential application problems.
- Announced that it would sell SoftICE 4.2.6 as a standalone product. SoftICE is used to diagnose problems in device drivers and applications.
