SAN FRANCISCO, July 16, 2002 - RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS), the most trusted name in e-security®, today reaffirmed its leadership role in identity management with the announcement of its portfolio of trusted identity and access management solutions, and plans to support the Liberty Alliance version 1.0 specifications for federated network identity.
As part of its identity management strategy, RSA Security is providing solutions to help enterprises securely manage the full lifecycle of a digital identity - from creation and maintenance to termination, as well as enforcing organizational policies regarding access to electronic resources. RSA Security's trusted identity and access management solutions not only store or provision digital identities, but also offer key capabilities, such as authentication, access management, issuance and management of credentials, and encryption.
"The staggering proliferation of identities on the Internet - and the challenge of managing them securely and conveniently - threatens to inhibit the growth of e-business," said Roberta J. Witty, Research Director, Information Security Strategies at Gartner. "Identity management is designed to help organizations control access to enterprise systems and resources, facilitate efficient and secure collaboration and commerce with business partners, and provide the level of trust, convenience and reliability needed to grow e-business revenues and enhance profitability. In addition, an effective identity management solution can be designed to reduce the number of unique user identities and include secure systems to create and manage those identities."
Liberty Alliance
The Liberty Alliance Project yesterday announced the public availability of its version 1.0 specifications, the first set of open federated network identity specifications from the cross-industry consortium that was formed less than a year ago. As a founding member, RSA Security is supporting the Liberty Alliance version 1.0 specifications in future versions of its portfolio of trusted identity and access management solutions. RSA Security's Liberty-compliant solutions are designed to allow customers to achieve secure authentication, Web access management and single sign-on, both inside and outside of an organization. The Liberty version 1.0 specifications focus on interoperability between systems to enable opt-in account linking and simplified sign-on functionality.
"Less than a year after the Liberty Alliance was formed, we've made great progress in delivering a secure, technologically agnostic identification infrastructure that can support a wide range of identity products and network access devices," said Eric Dean, chairman of the Liberty Alliance Management Board and CIO of United Airlines. "RSA Security's support and implementation of the Liberty specifications is a testament to the ease-of-implementation, commercial value and significant need for an interoperable network identification solution."
