The Hague, June 27, 2002 ? WRQ, Inc. today announced its membership in the Web Services Interoperability Organization (WS-I) (http://www.ws-i.org). WS-I is an industry organization committed to promoting consistent and reliable interoperability among Web services across platforms, applications and programming languages. WRQ will contribute to the Working Groups, and help develop a broad set of deliverables supporting Web services implementations.
"We are pleased that WRQ has chosen to lend its industry expertise to the efforts of WS-I," said Norbert H. Mikula, vice chair of the Web Services Interoperability Organization. "The collaboration of WRQ with other industry leaders will help us to meet our goal of assuring interoperability of Web services technologies."
According to WRQ, business agility rests on an organization's ability to expose complete business functions that already exist in the enterprise, rather than low-level data, as reusable Web services. Reusing and combining existing business functions as Web services is faster and less expensive than writing new code.
Web services and Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) represent the next step in creating integrated applications. These concepts represent fundamental shifts from traditional data-centric integration. While the data-centric approach relies on the synchronization of duplicated data among systems, a service-oriented approach makes it possible to create an application that simply uses "services" provided by other systems to accomplish its tasks. The goal is to reuse and adapt the applications and business logic already in the customer's enterprise systems, including host and legacy.
The resulting "new" application requires very little new business logic and relies on existing systems and databases to carry out functions. This architecture virtually eliminates the need for data synchronization, one of the most complex aspects of application integration.
"Web services are about providing standardized, reusable business functions," said Shaun Wolfe, president and COO of WRQ. "If organizations are to truly take advantage of Web services, they must go beyond the simple adoption of emerging standards like SOAP and WSDL. WRQ will focus on helping companies deploy and leverage a Service-Oriented Architecture, the foundation for delivering meaningful Web services."
WRQ recently unveiled its unique approach to Web services, based on the concept that nearly all of the business logic in an enterprise is reusable. WRQ® VerastreamTM exposes the business functions trapped within legacy host and other enterprise systems as discrete components without changing or duplicating code. These granular components from multiple enterprise systems can be rapidly combined to create high-level, fully integrated Web services. Because the resulting Web services are a composite of lower-level functions, they require minimal new business logic and can be created very quickly.
