SAN FRANCISCO – Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE), the leading provider of service and business assurance software, today announced that KPN has selected the Netcool® suite as the core IT management and service assurance platform for fault management in its fixed, IP and data networks. Headquartered in the Hague, KPN is a telecommunications service provider in Europe, with mobile, fixed telephony and IP operations across the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium.
“In today’s competitive marketplace, we must find ways to drive down operational expenditures while continuing to provide the highest levels of service to retain and grow our customer base,” said Eelco Blok, Senior Vice President Fixed Network Operations at KPN. “The Netcool suite offers a rapid return on our investment, and automates key business processes.”
After a competitive review of the available technologies, KPN selected Micromuse’s flagship Netcool/OMNIbus™ application, the Netcool/Internet Service Monitors™ suite, and the Netcool/Visionary™, Netcool/Impact™ and Netcool/Webtop™ applications. Working in concert, the Netcool applications provide constant service uptime through end-to-end monitoring of KPN’s infrastructure, helping to maintain the availability and reliability of their telecommunications services.
As the central monitoring solution in KPN’s infrastructure, the Netcool/OMNIbus solution helps collect and consolidate realtime status data from numerous devices, including several third-party and in-house developed element managers, to provide a consolidated view of services and network availability. KPN also selected several enhanced components of the Netcool suite to help solve the following:
> The Netcool/Internet Service Monitors™ (Netcool/ISMs™) suite alerts the administrators in IT operations to infrastructure problems, such as traffic overloads or memory issues, so they are better able to address problems before applications or services go down.
> The Netcool/Impact™ application helps determine how specific infrastructure problems might affect network-based services and identifies end-users who would be at risk should downtime occur.
> The Netcool/Visionary™ application maintains the uptime of IP-based services by looking inside network devices to determine why a problem occurred.
> The Netcool/Webtop™ application, a Web-based desktop interface, provides network managers with realtime information regarding the status of their services, anytime and anywhere.
“KPN is taking a number of measures to improve EBITDA, including consolidating the management of its IT infrastructure, cutting capital expenditures and ensuring return on its cost of operations,” said Richard Lowe, Vice President, Europe, Middle East & Africa region. “Our Netcool solution helps maintain and assure quality of service, but can also deploy quickly and provide a noticeable and almost immediate return on investment with minimal consultancy spend. Micromuse also has a strong track record in quickly delivering value to Tier-1 carriers.”
