Innovatieve technologie kan weer in aanmerking komen voor de jaarlijkse European ICT Prize, gesponsord door de Europese Commissie. De European ICT Prize (voorheen bekend als European IST Prize) is een jaarlijkse Europese prijs voor ict-innovatie. Vorig jaar won het Nederlandse Cavendish Kinetics de prestigieuze prijs met zijn nanomech-technologie.

The European ICT Prize is launched
A total of EUR700,000 to be awarded

In 2006, "the European Information Society Technologies Prize" changed its name to "the European Information and Communication Technologies Prize", or "the European ICT Prize. It is the most distinguished award for innovative products and services that represent the best of European innovation in ICT.
The European ICT Prize provides public recognition and a highly visible profile to innovative companies that convert novel ideas into marketable products. The high standards of applicants and the competitive evaluation procedure make this Prize the standard reference recognising major achievements in the ICT world of today. The Prize is organised by Euro-CASE* with the sponsorship and support of the European Commission.
The award structure provides for:
- 50-70 Nominees for the European ICT Prize -20 Nominees for the European ICT Grand Prize -20 Winners, with Prizes of EUR 5,000 each
- 3 Grand Prize Winners, with Prizes of EUR 200,000 each
All applications are assessed by independent experts from 16 European countries Euro-CASE will propose 20 Winners to the European Commission. An Executive Jury, composed of executives from 19 European countries will propose the three Grand Prize Winners.
The European Commission will select up to 20 EICT Prize Winners and up to 3 Grand Prize Winners, based on the technical rankings established by the expert evaluators. The result of the evaluation will be announced in February 2007.
Theme: "Novel products with a high information technology content and evident market potential".
The selection criteria include technical excellence, innovative content, potential market impact, capacity to generate employment, contribution to the acceptance and understanding of ICT in society, and likely social impact.
The European ICT Prize is open to entries from 33 countries. Any organisation (enterprise, laboratory, university or other institution) based in the European Union or in Associated States: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UK.
