ATLANTA – NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) will begin applying radio frequency identification (RFID) tags to its own products and implementing RFID-based solutions starting in the first quarter of 2006 to improve its supply chain management and asset tracking processes. A leader in developing end-to-end RFID solutions, NCR will work with its suppliers to implement the tagging initiative.
“NCR is deploying RFID throughout its own supply chain to help realize the operational efficiencies our RFID solutions are delivering to our clients across multiple industries,” said NCR Global RFID Solutions Vice President John Greaves. “We fully expect to realize measurable supply chain benefits in the short term for our own organization as a result of this process deployment.”
NCR will use a phased rollout plan throughout 2006 to incorporate an RFID inventory management solution into its supply chain, beginning with its products for the retail industry. Building on the success of this initial phase, NCR will expand the program to track other products across the company’s other business units.
NCR’s end-to-end solutions – which include printers, RFID tags, and the data management software to support and manage information exchange across the supply chain – will ensure that NCR and its suppliers make a seamless transition to RFID tagging.
NCR Global RFID Solutions provides thoughtware, hardware, consumables, software and services that help customers solve real business problems. NCR’s applications span industry vertical businesses, from retail to consumer goods to transportation, as well as supply chain verticals, from factory to warehouse to consumer.
