Getronics today announced a significant new release of its RDX (Rapid Deployment eXperience) solution for automated deployment of Microsoft technologies. Getronics RDX has been expanded to embrace the remote deployment of the Microsoft Windows Vista client, of Microsoft server environments and of Microsoft mobile devices. Significantly, it has also been expanded to provide automatic deployment of the branch office environment. With Getronics RDX achieving reductions in deployment costs of around 60%, it makes a substantial contribution to Getronics positioning as a leader in workspace management services.
The original release of Getronics RDX in November 2004 was strictly focused on the remote automated deployment of Microsoft XP and Office 2003. Working in close collaboration with Microsoft, Getronics has increased and extended the functionality of tools and processes for remote deployment, enabling full infrastructure deployment of Microsoft technologies. This dramatically reduces the time and cost of migrations while significantly improving first time success rates.
Stephen Sully, Global Portfolio Director for Getronics, says: “The challenge is to achieve the balance between the cost of creating and sustaining a client’s environment and ensuring that it is giving them the best in performance. Getronics is positioned to help its clients achieve this, thanks in part to our experience of creating rationalised and consistent environments across widely distributed enterprises, and thanks also to the intelligence and depth of our strategic alliances. Getronics RDX deploys across whole enterprises, integrating or setting up branches using a zero-touch approach. It builds on the strengths that Getronics and Microsoft each bring to our global partnership.”
“Microsoft is committed to working with partners to build solutions based on the Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment,” says Mark Hill, General Manager for Infrastructure Optimization at Microsoft. “We are excited to partner with Getronics to provide business customers a simple and cost-effective solution to prepare their server, client and mobile infrastructures for migration to Windows Vista and beyond.”
Getronics RDX is available on a global basis, and has successfully deployed almost 150,000 Microsoft XP desktops. The latest version is already being trialled in key installations worldwide. Getronics is the first company to provide a solution that can prepare Microsoft customer infrastructures for migration to Vista prior to its release in 2006. The Vista Stepping Stone programme, based on Getronics RDX technology, will enable a low-risk early adoption of Vista.
Ongoing collaboration by Getronics and Microsoft
Getronics and Microsoft have worked together to develop a solutions portfolio based on industry expertise and the most up-to-date software. The two companies will continue their joint investment programme to ensure businesses around the world keep on reaping benefits from Getronics RDX and the Microsoft Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) solution accelerator, as well as from Vista desktop and server technologies.
