Oracle Expands Offerings for SMEs in EMEA with JD Edwards
The popular JD Edwards applications will form a key part of Oracle’s expanded SME portfolio alongside E-Business Suite Special Edition
Oracle has given JD Edwards products a major role in Oracle’s applications portfolio for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Following its acquisition of PeopleSoft this year, Oracle will sell the JD Edwards product offering to the rapidly growing SME market.
“The acquisition of PeopleSoft ensures that Oracle has the widest portfolio of affordable industry solutions to meet the needs of SMEs across all industries and lines of business,” said Tino Scholman, Vice President, SME Applications, Oracle EMEA. “Oracle® E-Business Suite has made significant inroads at the upper end of the SME sector as well as in its large enterprise heartland, and the E-Business Suite Special Edition has been a particular success with smaller SMEs.
“Now we can offer JD Edwards to further enhance choice for companies in the manufacturing, distribution and asset-intensive sectors for which it was originally designed and where it was and is a brand leader.”
AMR Research analyst Nigel Montgomery welcomed the addition of JD Edwards to the Oracle product portfolio. “JDE is a very strong brand in its field and it has a very loyal and committed following worldwide,” he said. “Oracle is very smart to strengthen its SME portfolio with the addition of JD Edwards.”
An AMR Research Alert of 23 September 2004 stated: “JD Edwards version 8.11 recognizes today’s reality of excess global manufacturing capacity and offers a visionary approach to building best-in-class lean principles into an enterprise system.”
Within the SME market, Oracle will sell JD Edwards alongside the Oracle E-Business Suite Special Edition, which is a pre-configured, pre-installed package of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software applications for SMEs with 10-500 employees or with turnover from €5 million to €250 million. Oracle E-Business Suite Special Edition is a fixed-scope, fixed-time and fixed-price package with the ability to scale up easily to the full E-Business Suite as the user’s business expands.
The E-Business Suite Special Edition will continue to be sold exclusively through Oracle’s expanding network of 140 partners, while JD Edwards will be sold through the established JDE network of 41 partners. Oracle plans to double the number of partners offering JD Edwards while also increasing its E-Business Suite Special Edition partner base. All JD Edwards partners will join Oracle partners in Oracle PartnerNetwork, Oracle’s global business network of more that 15,000 companies.
“Our partners have been a critical element in our success in the SME market,” Mr. Scholman said. “We are confident not only of delivering increased business to our existing partners but also of meeting our targets for expanding the network to achieve the expected growth.”
Anthony Peake, Head of Applications and Industry Marketing for Oracle EMEA, commented: “We believe that this expanded portfolio gives SMEs in EMEA, across a wide range of industries, the best choice of solutions in terms of affordability, functionality and scalability. Oracle knows the SME market extremely well. We have more than 3,000 SME applications customers in EMEA and indeed 40% of our global customer base already lies in this sector.
“With our newly enhanced applications portfolio as well as our SME application server and database products, Oracle is a formidable solutions provider for the small and mid-sized company.”
