Oracle and Xpaseo Partner to Deliver RFID Management Appliance
Mitsubishi Implements Solution to Reduce Cost of Ownership and Ease Network Management
Oracle and Xpaseo, a leading provider of RFID appliances, today announced a partnership to offer an integrated software and hardware solution for managing an RFID deployment. Xpaseo will embed components of Oracle® Sensor-Based Services into its XGate devices to help companies implement and manage ongoing operations and reduce the total cost of ownership of RFID deployments.
The new offering enables companies to implement an RFID or sensor network using their existing investments in enterprise software. Relying on Oracle Sensor-Based Services, a comprehensive set of capabilities to capture, manage, analyze, access and respond to data from sensors RFID tags, customers can manage an entire RFID network from a single interface.
As companies move from RFID pilot programs to full implementations, data volume multiplies exponentially with each additional RFID device, adding to the complexity of system management. Xpaseo appliances are built on the robust architecture of Oracle Application Server 10g and Oracle Database 10g, two key components of Oracle Sensor-Based Services. Oracle Database 10g, the industry leading database for scale and management, enables data security and eases system management. Oracle Application Server 10g provides the ability to manage and monitor the system against pre-defined business rules, filter and route data to the appropriate enterprise systems.
Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc., a global manufacturer of factory automation products, is piloting the new solution at its North American Development Center for potential application in its operational logistics center, which controls the flow of the company’s manufactured products. The company is also outlining a pilot program that will help it to track high-volume assets in real-time.
“RFID technology plays key role in furthering our ability to automate and streamline our manufacturing operations,” Hidemasa Iida, vice president and director of Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. “We need a simple, yet robust solution to help us improve operations management in real-time. Combining our factory automation expertise with the integrated software and hardware offering from Oracle and Xpaseo will help ease the constraints on existing systems without additional administration costs.”
Companies can now reduce the load on their network and on-site facility servers by provisioning part or all of the RFID processing to an Oracle Edge Server. Edge Servers, which typically manage sensors and other automated identification capture methods, including RFID, reside on site at facilities such as distribution centers and warehouses. Additionally, better management of an RFID deployment through a single interface helps reduce the total cost of ownership.
“Organizations implementing RFID are challenged with the full lifecycle of RFID management, from the RFID tag readers on the network through the data in the enterprise systems,” said Chellappa Dhanukodi, CEO at Xpaseo, a member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork. “Our collaboration with Oracle will help customers gain greater control on nearly every aspect of their RFID systems and allow them to scale as they bring more facilities on line with RFID.”
“RFID is the technology that connects the information world to the physical world,” said Allyson Fryhoff, vice president of Oracle Sensor-Based Services. “Helping businesses to ease RFID information management and use it to make better business decisions while easing system administration will help fuel RFID adoption. Oracle and Xpaseo are helping to do just that.”
