SAN MATEO, Calif. -October 18, 2004 - Siebel Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SEBL), a leading provider of business applications software, today announced its support for the first release of the WS-I Basic Profile 1.0, released by the Web Services Interoperability (WS-I) Organization. Support of this industry standard will provide users of Siebel Systems' solutions with additional integration capabilities for Web Services.
The Web Services Interoperability Organization is committed to promoting interoperability among Web Services based on common, industry-accepted definitions and related XML standards support. The WS-I Organization brings the work of multiple standards development organizations together for the purpose of providing clarity and conformance around Web Services.
"As a good IT citizen, Siebel Systems is encouraged by the momentum accompanying the WS-I Basic Profile 1.0 and the adoption of the profile by member companies," said Skip Bacon, Vice President, Technology at Siebel Systems. "We believe that the development of interoperable Web Services will play a critical role in helping customers implement integration strategies that deliver breakthrough business value."
The WS-I Basic Profile 1.0 represents a critical breakthrough for the enterprise software industry and marks a milestone in efforts to arrive at a set of specifications to promote interoperability among Web Services across platforms, applications, and programming languages. As a member of the WS-I Organization, Siebel Systems looks forward to the further evolution of Web Services standards and intends to aggressively incorporate support for these standards as they become available.
The Siebel 7.7 platform, designed and developed to lower the total cost of ownership, is compliant with the WS-I Basic Profile 1.0, providing customers with the ability to integrate their Siebel applications with the rest of their IT infrastructure in a standards-compliant manner. Siebel Systems' active adoption of the WS-I Basic Profile 1.0 lets customers leverage existing investments in their legacy and custom-built applications by providing an easy, cost-effective integration option.
The Web Services Interoperability Organization is an industry-wide initiative with active participation from leading software vendors, customers, Web Services developers, and systems integrators. Member companies include IBM, Microsoft, BEA, and Siebel Systems. The WS-I Organization acts as a complement to organizations such as the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).
The objectives of the WS-I Organization are to provide thought leadership, recommended guidelines, sample implementations, and support tools for the design and development of interoperable Web Services. The WS-I Basic Profile 1.0 is a set of nonproprietary specifications, based on WSDL 1.1, SOAP 1.1, and XML 1.0, and is widely seen as having the potential to develop into the common foundation for the development of all Web Services.
