BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - Avaya Inc., (NYSE:AV) a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services, today announced it has completed the purchase of Spectel, a world leader in audio and web conferencing solutions, for approximately $103 million in cash.
As announced on August 3, 2004, Spectel's employee base of approximately 210 people located in Dublin, Ireland and Andover, Massachusetts join Avaya.
The acquisition enables Avaya to continue to expand its capabilities in conferencing, which is a core business communications technology. Avaya is combining its previous conferencing offers with Spectel's on-premise and service provider conferencing solutions and marketing these offers under a new portfolio name: Avaya Meeting Exchange.

Avaya Meeting Exchange includes software-based solutions that are designed using industry standards, which makes them well-suited to integrate with systems from a variety of vendors. This open, standards-based approach can ease development of converged conferencing solutions in cooperation with other industry leaders.
Avaya Meeting Exchange solutions can be easily and cost-effectively scaled to serve enterprises large and small and global service providers. The solutions offer enterprise on-premise, managed on-premise and service provider solutions, including applications for advanced services, such as integration with other productivity software suites, sophisticated operator support functions and wireless capabilities.
Avaya will also integrate Spectel technology with its own market-leading Internet Protocol (IP) telephony applications suite to provide businesses with expanded converged conferencing capabilities. Converged conferencing brings together Web, video, audio and data conferencing on an IP network. Demand for advanced collaboration applications is expected to grow as adoption of IP telephony in enterprises continues to expand.
