Avaya Installs First Phase of Core Converged Communications Network Hardware for 2006 FIFA World Cup(tm)
Avaya provides converged communications network hardware at new German Organising Committee for the FIFA World Cup(tm)
WATERLOO, BELGIUM - Avaya, Inc. (NYSE: AV), a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services, today announced the successful installation of the first stage of the 2006 FIFA World Cup(tm) network hardware. In preparation for the tournament, Avaya has provided network IP hardware for the new office of the Organising Committee (OC) for the FIFA World Cup(tm) office in Niederrad, Germany. This installation will be integrated with the existing office in Frankfurt and increase the football governing body (FIFA) and Organising Committee's efficiency in the run up to, and during, the tournament in Germany. Also, this equipment will become part of the communications core for the actual tournament network.
Currently, there are 120 German OC employees and this number will continue to expand rapidly over the next two years as preparations for the 2006 FIFA World Cup(tm) ramp up. They will be in regular contact with Football Associations around the world and FIFA in Switzerland, as well as suppliers and stadia within Germany. A robust, expandable communications network that can be easily integrated with existing offices and systems in Frankfurt is vital to their preparations and ultimately the success of the tournament.
Avaya has provided FIFA and the German OC with converged communications network hardware that enables centralised control and management across multiple locations. The new communications hardware links the offices together as one system offering a wide range of functionality. This provides the German OC with cost savings on network administration as traffic runs over a single converged network using Avaya hardware instead of separate voice and data networks.
