Oracle announced the availability of Oracle JDeveloper 10g Preview, giving developers early access to the upcoming release of the product.
Featuring Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF), Oracle JDeveloper 10g simplifies application development by providing a "productivity layer," enabling developers of all skill levels to create J2EE applications and Web services optimized for deployment on enterprise grids. Oracle ADF further streamlines the development process by allowing developers to adopt a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach, which enables them to assemble more efficient applications from a set of shared business services. As a result, developers can focus on defining higher-level business logic and optimizing process flow, instead of manually writing low-level application code.
"The emergence of Service Oriented Architectures and grid computing are essential to making the agile enterprise a reality," said Mark Driver, vice president and research director, Gartner. "By building Web services for enterprise grid computing, applications become easier to maintain, manage, access and integrate to respond to changing business needs."
Building More Flexible Applications
Business applications have traditionally been built as isolated entities, making them difficult to customize, extend and integrate. For example, developers had to retest the entire application every time they needed to upgrade or modify a particular function. Now, with Oracle JDeveloper 10g, developers can create more flexible applications that seamlessly evolve with changing business requirements, such as integrating systems after an acquisition, customizing hosted applications for a new client, or expanding data collection and analysis across several strategic partners.
"The promise of ‘productivity with choice’ has driven the features in the new release of Oracle JDeveloper 10g," said Ted Farrell, chief architect and senior director of strategy for Application Development Tools, Oracle. "Oracle demonstrates that productivity and choice can converge in the same development environment, helping developers create flexible applications and business services optimized for deployment on enterprise grids."
