Citizenship and Immigration Canada Standardizes on Siebel eGovernment Applications for Case Management System

Citizenship and Immigration Canada is a federal department of the Canadian government that manages citizenship, immigration, visitor visas, and access for temporary workers, foreign students and refugees.  Planned for implementation over the next three years, the Global Case Management System will replace several aging systems with a state-of-the-art, department-wide solution that will link all CIC offices across Canada and in more than 100 countries worldwide.  Not only will the Global Case Management System streamline the management of CIC's important caseload, it will also provide the technological foundation to support new business initiatives.

Siebel eGovernment is the application software foundation for the Global Case Management System.  The system will provide CIC with a unified platform for managing the hundreds of thousands of cases that CIC handles worldwide.  The Global Case Management System will integrate all the information needed to manage cases effectively, contributing to overall improvements in performance and client service.  This initiative will also improve CIC's ability to share critical information with its partners and other governments more quickly, thereby ensuring the safety and security of Canadians.

Improved service for immigrants, foreign visitors, and refugees is the central focus of the case management initiative.  The new system will speed the application process and provide greater transparency for applicants wanting to check on their status and access services.  With the new system, CIC staff will gain real-time visibility into key service and productivity metrics such as application wait time and case backlog.  CIC staff will have the ability to instantly share information across offices and with personnel in the field, ensuring a holistic, up-to-the-minute view of each case.  The system also gives visibility into how CIC is progressing against yearly targets for immigration by population segment, such as skilled workers.

Border security and enforcement will also benefit from the Global Case Management System.  For example, the system will enable CIC officers to use the system to quickly conduct analyses such as cross-referencing visitor visa applicants with law enforcement watch lists and databases.  At ports of entry, officers will be able to instantly check the visitor visa and passport status of foreign visitors as soon as they arrive.
