Citrix Expands Business Into Multi-Billion Dollar Access Infrastructure Market with Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite

Building On Its Base of 120,000 Enterprise Customers and Over 7,000 Channel and Alliance Partners, Citrix Broadens Its Software Offering to Enable the 'On-Demand Enterprise'

18 March, 2003 - Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), the global leader in access infrastructure solutions, today announced a comprehensive product strategy designed to drive the company's growth by broadening its market-leading position in server-based computing into the burgeoning access infrastructure market.

To accomplish this, Citrix is extending its flagship MetaFrame XP Presentation Server, which has an estimated 77 percent market share (1) and nearly 50 million users at more than 120,000 organisations worldwide, into a suite of products that addresses end-to-end enterprise access requirements. Preliminary company estimates size the access infrastructure market between $8-10B over the next four to five years.

"Our strategy of delivering a suite of access infrastructure products is a natural evolution for Citrix, the global leader in enterprise access solutions," said Mark Templeton, Citrix's president and CEO. "Until now, businesses have been forced to address enterprise access requirements with multiple, disparate technologies requiring extensive integration that only add to the complexity of corporate computing."

"Our goal with this product strategy is to provide customers with a complete and integrated access infrastructure solution that brings greater simplicity, cost-effectiveness and control to IT, while at the same time opening new paths of revenue growth for Citrix in adjacent markets."

To provide end-to-end access to enterprise application and information resources, companies have had to buy and deploy multiple technologies in the categories of presentation and application conferencing, device and network services, aggregation and personalisation, and security and identity management, and then to integrate these technologies on their own.

The new Citrix® MetaFrame® Access Suite, announced today, consolidates these technologies into a single, integrated access infrastructure that enables end-to-end access to the "on-demand enterprise." The result for customers is a complete solution that gives workers secure, easy and instant access to enterprise applications and information resources, from anywhere, anytime, using nearly any device over any connection, and that simplifies the deployment, management, monitoring and measurement of these applications in heterogeneous IT environments.

Partner, Analyst and Customer Support for Citrix Product Strategy "The new Citrix strategy sets a positive tone for the company's future, expanding the widespread influence of its MetaFrame server across the entire product suite," said Graham Clark, general manager, .NET Platform Strategy & Partner Group, Microsoft.  "As a key Microsoft partner and a trusted name in enterprise access, Citrix continues to deliver impressive product functionality that adds value to the Microsoft Windows Server Terminal Services environment, leverages the Microsoft .NET framework, and allows customers to easily take advantage of their enterprise resources."

"As one of the largest Securities Broker/Dealer networks in the country, with nearly 3,000 offices, we've significantly cut costs and raised productivity by standardising our enterprise on Citrix," said Chris McDaniel, senior vice president and chief information officer for Mutual Services. "Citrix provides us with a secure environment for integrating and deploying mission-critical trading and back-office applications from a central location, allowing our end-users to take advantage of benefits such as real-time commission pay-out and secure trading.  With the introduction of the Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite, we're certain that we'll continue to experience demonstrable ROI and improved customer responsiveness."

"Organisations are realising that they need a fulcrum for reuse of common sets of contextual aggregation and display technologies, including application access and delivery," said Craig Roth, vice president, META Group. "Because these services are required for best-practice interfaces, it helps if they are established as a common layer that applications can be accessed through."

The Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite
Citrix plans to roll out the initial products in the suite in Q2, with additional products planned for the second half of the year.  The suite includes the following products:

·Citrix MetaFrame XP Presentation Server, Feature Release 3 - The easiest way to manage enterprise applications from a central location and access them from anywhere.

The foundation of the Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite, Citrix MetaFrame XP Presentation Server is the world's most widely deployed presentation server for centrally managing heterogeneous applications and delivering their functionality as a service to workers, wherever they may be.

MetaFrame XP Presentation Server, Feature Release 3 is an exceptional foundation on which to build highly scalable, flexible, secure and manageable access solutions that reduce computing costs and increase the utility of any information system. It is certified to run on Windows 2000 and 2003 Servers, and supports virtually any custom or commercially packaged Windows applications.

In addition, the product update includes new customer-requested features such as an improved user experience with browser- and Web-based applications, and a zero-install "anonymous device" client (which allows users to access applications from Internet kiosks, for example, without downloading any application files). The product will be available in Q2.

· Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 1.2 for UNIX® - The easiest way to manage UNIX-based enterprise applications from a central location and access them from anywhere.

Providing users with secure access to UNIX and Java applications, Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 1.2 for UNIX supports the following new platforms: Sun Microsystems' Solaris(tm) SPARC 9, Hewlett-Packard's HP-UX® 11i, and IBM's AIX®.5.1 and 5.2, and includes new features to extend performance, usability and security. The product will be available in Q2.

· Citrix MetaFrame Secure Access Manager - The most cost-effective way to get secure, personalised access over the Web to any application and information.

Citrix MetaFrame Secure Access Manager provides secure, single-point access over the Web to a wide range of internal and external information resources, including applications, data sources, documents, Web content and services. With a powerful set of easy-to-use, wizard-driven configuration tools, IT administrators can enable browser-based, SSL/TLS-encrypted access to the entire enterprise - personalised to each user's needs, with secure connectivity over the Web, and without the need for a VPN. The product will be available in Q2. (For more information, see the related release, "Citrix Launches MetaFrame Secure Access Manager For Secure, Personalised Web Access to Enterprise Applications and Information.")

·Citrix MetaFrame Conferencing Manager - The most productive way for teams, regardless of their individual locations, to work concurrently and collaboratively on the same applications and documents.

For the first time, distributed teams can hold an application conference by sharing access to an enterprise application without worrying about the various network connections, individual locations, or access devices team members may be using.

Citrix MetaFrame Conferencing Manager adds intuitive application conferencing to the MetaFrame XP Presentation Server that eliminates the geographical distance between team members, increases the productivity of meetings, and allows easy collaboration.  The product will be available in Q2.

·Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager - The most efficient single sign-on solution for accessing all password-protected applications running in the Citrix MetaFrame environment.

Citrix MetaFrame Password Manager provides universal password security and single sign-on access to Windows, Web, proprietary and host-based applications running within the MetaFrame environment.  Users authenticate once with a single password, and MetaFrame Password Manager does the rest, automatically logging into any password-protected information systems, enforcing password policies, monitoring all password-related events, and even automating end-user tasks, including password changes and resets. MetaFrame Password Manager makes connecting to secure applications faster and more secure, and lowers the costs of support for IT organisations. The product will be available in Q2.
