The Hague, March 5, 2003 - WRQ, Inc. today announced that it will co-sponsor a new Web services specification known as WS-Reliability. The company also announced that WRQ(r) has joined the OASIS standards consortium and will serve on the newly formed technical committee to advance the specification.
While Web services provide some of the most promising integration technologies, the basic standards - SOAP, WSDL, HTTP - lack the critical message delivery functionality that most organizations require before implementing a new technology in mission-critical applications. Guaranteed message delivery is crucial to creating business-ready Web services.
Until now, there has been no proposed standard for delivering SOAP and WSDL messages. WS-Reliability will guarantee the delivery of all messages at varying service levels, a critical step if Web services are to be adopted in business-to-business environments.
"At WRQ, we believe that the WS-Reliability standard is a significant step in moving the industry closer to business-ready Web services," said Scott Rosenbloom, chief strategist at WRQ. "To make that happen, the industry needs to take Web services standards to the next level. Once reliable messaging is added, more companies can confidently take advantage of Web services technology to simplify interoperability among enterprise systems."
WS-Reliability is a SOAP-based protocol for exchanging messages. It will allow systems to interoperate reliably in a platform- and vendor-neutral manner. The technical committee will address the following aspects of message delivery:
* message persistence
* message acknowledgement and resending
* elimination of duplicate messages
* ordered delivery of messages
* delivery status awareness for sender and receiver applications
The draft WS-Reliability specification was turned over to the OASIS standards body on a royalty free basis on January 22, 2003.
