Wire One Expands its GlowpointTM Network Reach with Cable & Wireless Global IP-VPN QoS Solution
Cable & Wireless and Wire One to Jointly Offer Glowpoint's Best-in-Class Video Communications Solution to Enterprises Around the World
Brussels, February 17, 2003 - Cable & Wireless (NYSE:CWP), the global telecommunications group, and Wire One Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WONE), a provider of video communications solutions, today announced Wire One will deploy Cable & Wireless' global IP-VPN QoS solution to support Glowpointsm, Wire One's award-winning IP-based videoconferencing service. With its global reach and ability to support the quality of service requirements of video and voice over IP, Cable & Wireless' IP-VPN QoS solution will help Wire One support new subscriber growth by significantly enhancing its ability to deliver global access to Glowpoint while providing the same high level of network performance, reliability and quality of service its customers have come to expect in the United States.
Cable & Wireless and Wire One also announced today that Cable & Wireless will become a Glowpoint sales agent. By aligning sales and marketing resources in support of a unified solution, the two companies hope to drive new subscriber growth and enhance their ability to deliver global access to prospective videoconferencing customers.
Wire One, an existing Cable & Wireless hosting customer for its point-of-presence in the United Kingdom, will begin using Cable & Wireless' IP-VPN QoS solution as the IP infrastructure-of-choice over which to carry heavy volumes of Glowpoint traffic for customers in the US, Japan and other parts of Europe. Cable & Wireless' IP-VPN QoS will initially connect five locations around the world where Wire One operates video conferencing gateways. Over time, the solution will be scaled to accommodate additional Glowpoint traffic.
"Cable & Wireless was a logical choice to align with because they could offer Wire One a global MPLS-based IP network solution with the flexibility and performance to support Glowpoint, which frees us to focus on what we do best: providing first class customer service and a superior video communications experience," said Michael Brandofino, Wire One's Chief Technology Officer. "Our goal to cost-effectively expand Glowpoint's geographic reach is also being met through this relationship. We will now be able to deliver Glowpoint with the same reliability and quality of service its domestic customers have come to expect to regions where, in the past, it has been difficult to provide coverage, such as Northern Europe and the Pacific Rim."
"Applications like video communication really test the capabilities of any network, and Wire One's unique video-over-IP Glowpoint service will showcase how effective, flexible and reliable our solution is," said Simon Cunningham, chief executive officer of Cable & Wireless America. "Combining Cable and Wireless' MPLS-based IP-VPNs with Wire One's expertise in providing video services is a real win-win for our combined customers."
