January 23, 2003 - Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), a global leader in virtual workplace software and services, today announced the appointment of Tom Bogan, president and chief operating officer for Rational Software Corporation (Nasdaq: RATL) and Gary Morin, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Lexmark International (NYSE: LXK) to Citrix's board of directors. Both qualify as "independent" directors under NASDAQ rules.
Bogan brings to Citrix nearly 30 years of high technology management experience, including service as a chief executive officer, and previous boardroom experience with eRoom Technology, Meca Software and others.
Morin brings extensive financial and investor experience to the board, having served in key financial positions at several multi-billion dollar corporations over the last 30 years. He will serve as chairman of the audit committee and qualifies as a "financial expert" under the proposed SEC rules.
"Lots of companies are actively looking to fill board seats, and we are extremely pleased that candidates of this caliber chose to join us at Citrix," said Mark Templeton, Citrix president and chief executive officer. "Both Tom and Gary have been the 'face' to Wall Street for the technology leaders where they've worked, and will meaningfully broaden the financial and operational base of the Citrix board."
The board appointments come on the heels of three recent executive hires designed to further strengthen the expertise of Citrix's senior management team. Most recently, Citrix named Kate Hutchison as senior vice president of marketing. Hutchison provides worldwide strategic leadership on positioning Citrix and is responsible for building and communicating the Citrix brand globally. She oversees corporate marketing, product marketing, industry/solutions marketing and America's field marketing.
Prior to joining Citrix, Hutchison was senior vice president of marketing and a member of the executive team at BEA (Nasdaq: BEAS), a billion-dollar enterprise software vendor where she led the marketing efforts to help grow the company from less than $300 million to nearly $1 billion in revenue in three years.
In addition, Citrix recently hired David R. Friedman as vice president, general counsel and secretary, responsible for the Citrix worldwide legal function, including advising senior management and the board of directors, overseeing compliance and governance initiatives, and negotiating major transactions. Friedman previously served as senior vice president and general counsel for Parametric Technology Corporation (Nasdaq: PMTC), a Fortune 500 software company, which grew from half a billion past $1 billion in revenue during his tenure.
Also, Ross Brown recently joined Citrix as vice president of business planning responsible for go-to-market planning for Citrix, including global channel programs, pricing and licensing, and customer segmentation. Brown brings over 13 years of industry experience to Citrix, including founding Sound Consulting, a leading market consultancy. He has developed and executed a number of go-to-market programs for many technology companies including Microsoft, Nortel Networks, Verizon and GE, among others. Brown was recently recognised by "Computer Reseller News" as one of the top "channel chiefs" in the software industry for his work in shifting Citrix channel partners more toward providing more value-add services.
"These executives represent critical hires required to meet our long-term growth objectives," said Templeton. "They each bring substantial leadership experience in their respective areas of expertise and are the right people to have on our bus. Over the course of the year, we've been able to attract top-notch talent from some of the most respected companies in the world - people who fit our culture well and have the passion, focus, and proven execution capabilities to build Citrix into one of the greatest software companies in the world."
