GitLab is sinds vandaag beschikbaar via de Cloud Marketplace van VMware. Hierdoor krijgen teams van programmeurs die binnen VMware-omgevingen gebruikmaken van de cloud met slechts een paar muisklikken toegang tot GitLab Enterprise Core.
De beschikbaarheid van GitLab biedt developers de volgende voordelen: 1)alles wordt op één locatie ondergebracht, van het bijhouden van problemen en beheer van broncode tot CI/CD en bewaking; dit vereenvoudigt toolketens en stelt programmeurs in staat om flexibeler te voorzien in de vraag naar innovatieve oplossingen en 2) dankzij het ingebouwde containerregister van GitLab en de integratie met Kubernetes is het eenvoudiger voor programmeurs om aan de slag te gaan met het gebruik van containers en de ontwikkeling van cloud-native applicaties. Zo hoeven ze niet langer te wachten op goedkeuring voor de provisioning van hun installaties.
En omdat Gitlab compatibel is met de ‘Continuous Verification’-functie van VMware kunnen programmeurs een beroep doen op bewakingsmogelijkheden en budgetcontroles om meer grip op hun infrastructuur te krijgen. Zelfs als teams onder grote druk staan om het innovatietempo op te voeren hoeven ze niet al te veel verschillende containers op een ongecontroleerde manier in te richten, iets wat vaak in budgetoverschrijdingen resulteert.
Gitlab wordt aangeboden en ondersteund door Bitnami, dat een speciaal samengestelde reeks van applicaties beschikbaar stelt via de marktplaats van VMware. Dit is een nieuwe stap op weg naar de vereenvoudiging van het gebruik van open source door programmeurs, omdat zij minder dingen met elkaar hoeven te verbinden tijdens het ontwikkelingsproces.

September 17, 2019 — GitLab, the DevOps platform delivered as a single application, has announced the GitLab Enterprise (Core) solution is now published and available for use on the newly-launched VMware Cloud Marketplace, helping customers take advantage of the simplicity and enhanced velocity of software innovation that GitLab delivers.
Development teams will now be able to deploy and run GitLab Enterprise (Core) on their VMware environments in a few clicks. GitLab is packaged and supported by Bitnami which provides curated applications for VMware’s marketplace.
With everything from issue tracking and source code management to CI/CD and monitoring in one place, GitLab simplifies toolchain complexity and deals with bottlenecks, so developers can respond flexibly to their organization’s changing demands. With a built-in container registry and Kubernetes integration, GitLab makes it easier for teams to start using containers and cloud native development and to optimize app development processes.
