Ericsson geselecteerd voor het 5G fieldlab op de Automotive Campus in Helmond. Doel is de waarde van 5G use cases te onderzoeken met zelfrijdende auto’s en applicaties die de verkeersveiligheid vergroten.
"Waar 4G mensen verbindt, zal 5G de hele samenleving verbinden en uitgroeien tot een ecosysteem waarvan veel bedrijfstakken, zoals de auto-industrie, zullen profiteren’’, zegt Tom Poelhekken, Chief Technology Officer bij KPN. “Het is dan ook van groot belang dat we onderzoeken hoe we 5G connected- en automated-rijden kunnen stimuleren. Als onderdeel van het Europese project Concorda, testen we samen met Ericsson de nieuwste technologieën voor mobiele netwerken in de auto-industrie.”
KPN implementeert nabij Helmond, op de A270 en de A58 tussen Eindhoven en Helmond, de nieuwste technologie in zijn commerciële netwerk voor automotive-doeleinden. Op dit traject wordt onder meer 5G ultra low latency getest, waarmee auto’s bijna real-time met andere voertuigen of verkeerslichten en matrixborden kunnen communiceren. KPN zal ook andere partijen op de Automotive Campus uitnodigen om nieuwe ideeën te ontwikkelen voor dit specifieke 5G-fieldlab.

Ericsson for the 5G field lab on theAutomotive Campus in Helmond. Aim is to discover the value of 5G use cases with self driving cars and applications that increase safety for all traffickers.
“Where4Gconnects people, 5G will connect all of society and is expected to become an ecosystem that will benefit many industries, such as automotive,” says Tom Poelhekken, Chief Technology Officer at KPN. “It is therefore crucial that we explore how 5G can fuel the rise of connected and automated driving. As part of the European project Concorda, together with Ericsson, we will test the latest technologies in mobile networks for the automotive industry.”
Near Helmond, on the A270 and between Eindhoven and Tilburg on the A58, KPN will implement the latest technologies in their commercial network for automotive purposes. Testing 5G ultra-low latency which enables vehicles to communicate near real-time with other vehicles or for example with traffic lights and matrix signs. KPN will invite other parties on the Automotive Campus to come up with new ideas for this specific 5G field lab.
