Paris, July 29 - As a consequence of the current market conditions and to be fully in line with its cost cutting program, Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and
NYSE: ALA) today announces that it will not participate in the Telecom World 2003 event organized by the ITU in Geneva next year.
With many of the company's competence centers within short travel distance from Geneva, Alcatel will encourage its customers and other stakeholders from all over the world to take advantage of their visit to Telecom World 2003 to come and visit Alcatel on its "home turf".
Alcatel will put every effort into facilitating these visits and will ensure that senior Alcatel leadership is available to host our clients and other constituencies to discuss and demonstrate Alcatel's competencies in Stuttgart, Germany; Paris, France; Milan, Italy; and Antwerp, Belgium.
Alcatel is convinced that both the ITU and its customers will understand this decision.
