VIANEN, 24 OCTOBER 2017 – Relined Fiber Network, the independent operator of Dark Fibre capacity has signed an agreement with BT, one of the world’s leading providers of communications services and solutions, in order to resell Dark Fibre capacity within BT’s Dutch fibre-optic network. This extends the reach of Relined’s Dark Fibre network by approximately 7000 km.
Through the agreement with BT, Relined's infrastructure expands nationwide, allowing more redundancy and finer-grained distribution to be offered. The BT network provides connections in many city centres, including Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht. With this agreement, the number of connected data centres increases from 70 to more than 90 and enables Dark Fibre connections to various other locations throughout the Netherlands.
In many public and private fibre-optic networks, a portion of the capacity remains unused. As an independent operator, Relined's strategy is to make this unlit fibre-optic cable available to the market.
"
This collaboration adds almost 7000 km of fibre-optic cable in a single go without having to put a single spade in the ground," says Relined Director Jan Willem Tom. "
For us, BT's national and fine-grained network is a welcome expansion to our Dark Fibre network, allowing us to serve our domestic and international customers even better."
BT provides its customers with a
broad range of networked IT services, with a strong focus on the cloud, unified communications and cyber-security services required by large organisations to enable their digital transformation. In addition to its large-scale fibre-optic network, BT also operates three data centres in the Netherlands.
Tomas Vanderick, BT's CEO for the Benelux and Nordics, comments
: "BT's core business is delivering dynamic network and cloud-based services to multinationals and large government organisations across the globe. Our state-of-the-art network is the foundation for this. The agreement with Relined allows us to take the Dark Fibre capacity not currently in use by our international customers to the market in a different way.”
About Relined Fiber Network
Relined is the independent operator of unused Dark Fibre capacity in existing public and private fibre-optic networks. With national coverage and fine-grained local distribution of Dark Fibre network throughout all of the Netherlands. Partly due to the fact that many parties in the Netherlands have installed their own fibre-optic networks, the Netherlands has an excellent national and fine-grained distribution of fibre-optic infrastructure. Relined's sole activity is the rental of Dark Fibre connections (unlit fibre-optic cable) in order to make the unused capacity (of third parties) available to the market.
