Gouda, 9 oktober 2017- Bezitters van de Orbi, het prijswinnende Wifi-systeem van NETGEAR, kunnen met de nieuwe firmware update OS 2.0 nu meerdere satellieten aan elkaar koppelen. Tot op heden was het alleen mogelijk om de satellieten aan de router te koppelen. Door de update kan het bereik eenvoudig verhoogd worden met behoud van de snelheid. Alleen de router hoeft bedraad aangesloten te worden aan de modem, de satellieten hoeven alleen van stroom voorzien te worden waarna je ze met elkaar kunt verbinden.
Tot op heden kon de satelliet uitsluitend aan de router verbonden worden waardoor bij het toevoegen van een extra satelliet de router altijd in het midden van de opstelling moest staan. Dat is nu verleden tijd want de router kan niet alleen met een satelliet verbonden worden, maar de satellieten kunnen ook onderling verbinden. De firmware update voegt ondersteuning toe voor wat heet “Daisy Chain” waarbij de router en satelliet(en) een keten vormen die aan elkaar zijn verbonden door middel van een didigated backhaul. Door deze methodiek blijven de prestaties van het netwerk constant en snel.
Door de 2.0 firmware update wordt het ook mogelijk om de verschillende modellen uit de Orbi-familie(*) aan elkaar te koppelen. Zo werkt bijvoorbeeld de satelliet van de RBK30 probleemloos samen met de router en satelliet van de RBK50.

Deze kan vervolgens geïnstalleerd worden via orbilogin.com -> Advanced -> Administration -> Firmware Upgrade.
