KPN is voornemens een nieuwe obligatielening uit te geven, bestaande uit twee tranches. De opbrengst zal worden gebruikt voor de inkoop van maximaal EUR 750 miljoen aan bestaande obligaties en voor algemene bedrijfsdoelstellingen. Met deze transacties wil KPN de gemiddelde looptijd van zijn obligatieleningen verlengen en de schuldstructuur verder optimaliseren. Daarnaast is de verwachting dat deze transactie de gemiddelde rente van de obligatieportefeuille zal verlagen en de herfinancieringsbehoefte op de korte termijn vermindert.
