Houten, The Netherlands, 13 March 2015 - Triple-play subscriptions were used by 59 percent of Dutch households in Q4 2014, up from 50 percent a year and a half ago. Known as 'All-in-one' subscriptions in the Dutch market, a triple-play includes the three fixed services broadband, TV and fixed telephony, all from the same provider. One in twelve of those with triple-play also had a mobile subscription from the same provider (quad-play), according to the latest report from independent market researcher Telecompaper.
More than half of the triple-play customers (57%) get their three fixed services from Ziggo or UPC. Following the merger of the two cable operators, the new Ziggo has a majority of triple-play connections in all provinces except for Zeeland, Flevoland and Gelderland. KPN is second in the national triple-play market with 21 percent of subscribers. Over the past year, Ziggo and UPC lost a small amount of market share, while KPN and its brand Telfort added share.
These figures come from the report ‘
Triple Play Insights Q4 2014’, based on a survey of 11,000 Dutch consumers aged 12-80. The survey was conducted during the fourth quarter of 2014 by the Telecompaper Consumer Panel.
Eight percent of the triple-play customers changed providers during the past twelve months. Almost a third of Telfort’s base became a customer during this period, suggesting the KPN subsidiary is growing. This is reflected in Telfort’s triple-play market share, which increased by 50 percent over the past year.
The vast majority of triple-play customers (79%) don’t want to change anything about their subscription. Five percent are thinking about ending their fixed telephony subscription, turning them into dual-play customers. Four percent are thinking of subscribing to extra theme channels (HBO, FOX Sports, etc). These extra channels may be watched on smart TVs, which are now present in a third of triple-play households. Other devices popular in triple-play households are laptops (83%) and tablets (61%). These mobile devices are connected mainly via Wi-Fi at home.
