North America & Europe market share grew quarter-on-quarter by six percent in Q1 2002
Paris, June 4, 2002 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) continued to lead the world-wide market for digital subscriber line (DSL) equipment in the first quarter of 2002, according to industry analysts Dell’Oro Group. With a cumulative share of 38 percent of DSL ports shipped world-wide to the end of the quarter, Alcatel delivered over three times as many ports as
its nearest competitor. Analysts RHK and Infonetics also confirmed
Alcatel’s first quarter gains and continued market leadership.
Alcatel’s global share has increased over three successive quarters, following overall market growth. The Alcatel 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager (ASAM) and Alcatel Litespan Digital Loop Carrier systems are the cornerstones of Alcatel’s market dominance and are prominent in the networks of over fifty of the world’s largest carriers, delivering business and residential broadband services.
In North America, Alcatel’s market share jumped by over six percentage points quarter on quarter to 78 percent, ten times that of its nearest
competitor. In Europe, Alcatel also extended its market leadership,
increasing its share by six percentage points to almost 40 percent.
“Demand for DSL is buoyant, translating into a strong quarter-on-quarter increase in port shipments,” said Michel Rahier, President of Alcatel’s
broadband networking activities. “As the market for increasingly
sophisticated broadband services grows, so does Alcatel’s market
leadership. We continue to work with the world’s largest service providers, sharing our expertise to enhance the broadband experience”.
