Houten, The Netherlands, 03 June 2014 - The Dutch FTTH market expanded to 1.94 million homes passed at the end of 2013 (+34%). Of the total, 656,000 lines were actually used (homes activated), according to Telecompaper's annual FTTH report. The Telecompaper FTTH Monitor, a detailed database on FTTH progress in the Netherlands, shows that the ratio of homes activated versus homes passed at the end of 2013 was stable compared to the end of 2012, at fewer than 34 percent. Telecompaper estimates 3.45 million FTTH lines by 2018. Reggefiber is the market leader with an 87 percent share of homes passed in 2013. CIF reached a market share of 10 percent at the end of 2013.
The
‘FTTH in the Netherlands 2014’ report provides an overview of the state of the Dutch FTTH market at the level of the individual twelve provinces, as well as the fifteen largest cities in the country. FTTH is currently being rolled out in eleven of the fifteen largest cities.
The province Gelderland, in the east of the country, gained the most new homes passed in the past year (Q1 2013 – Q1 2014), with over 120,000 homes receiving access to FTTH. South Holland, which includes The Hague and Rotterdam, followed with about 62,000, while Limburg and North Brabant in the south of the country tied for third place, each with just over 50,000 new homes passed.
The report provides a short overview of what happened in the past year at big and small FTTH players, among others:
- Reggefiber changed its demand aggregation and roll-out strategy in new areas.
- The ACM announced an in-depth investigation into KPN’s plan to increase its stake in Reggefiber.
- CIF focused on roll-out rather than acquisitions.
- CanalDigitaal and Scarlet entered the market as service providers.
The report also includes brief discussions of a number of important issues in the (international) broadband and FTTH markets. The Telecompaper FTTH Monitor includes all FTTH projects in the Netherlands.
