Houten, The Netherlands, 01 April 2014 - Dutch consumer VoIP connections grew by 1.1 percent during the fourth quarter of 2013 to reach a total 5.1 million at the end of 2013, according to Telecompaper's quarterly Dutch Fixed Telephony Market report. The growth in VoIP connections offset the 6.8 percent drop in PSTN/ISDN lines and 2.5 percent decrease in WLR connections to see the consumer fixed telephony market grow by a net 12,000 lines or 0.2 percent during the quarter to a total 6.25 million connections.
VoIP growth was led by a growing number of connections over FTTH/B networks, which increased 5.1 percent on a quarterly basis. Cable VoIP saw 0.8 percent quarterly growth, and DSL VoIP lines increased by 0.5 percent during the fourth quarter.
“The fixed telephony market is expected to expand further, with a CAGR of 1.3 percent per year over the period 2014-2018,” said Telecompaper senior research analyst and report author Kamiel Albrecht. “Growth in VoIP lines will continue to outpace the decrease in PSTN/ISDN and WLR users.”
The report also shows that retail revenues* for the consumer fixed telephony market amounted to EUR 334 million in the fourth quarter of 2013, stable compared with the third quarter of 2013. For the period 2014-2018, fixed telephony revenues are estimated to decrease by a CAGR of -2 percent.
