Amsterdam, 12 maart 2014 --- Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), leverancier van opensourceoplossingen, breidt het certificeringprogramma voor applicaties uit met Red Hat Container Certification. Het certificaat verzekert dat applicatiecontainers die gebouwd zijn op Red Hat Enterprise Linux zonder problemen werken op verschillende gecertificeerde container-hosts. De certificering is speciaal ontwikkeld om aan de behoeften van ISV-partners, service providers en hun klanten te voldoen. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, dat binnenkort wordt uitgebracht, en Red Hat’s OpenShift Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) zullen beide gecertificeerde container-hosts zijn, waarbij Docker als primair container-formaat wordt ondersteund.
Linux Containers
Linux Containers blijken een belangrijke opensourcetechnologie voor het verpakken en leveren van applicaties en combineert lichtgewicht applicatie-isolatie met de flexibiliteit van
image-based deployment-methodes. Ontwikkelaars hebben Linux Containers razendsnel omarmd omdat ze het applicatiegebruik vereenvoudigen en versnellen, en menig PaaS-platform is inmiddels gebouwd rondom Linux Container-technologie, waaronder OpenShift van Red Hat. Red Hat Enterprise Linux implementeert Linux Containers door technologieën, zoals Control Groups (cGroups), Resource Management, SELinux en network namespaces te gebruiken, maakt
multi-tenancy mogelijk en verkleint de veiligheidsrisico’s.
Voortbouwend op de mogelijkheden van Red Hat Enterprise Linux worden container-applicaties ingezet als softwarepakketten inclusief de applicatie en de bijbehorende
runtime-componenten. De voordelen zijn onder meer:
- Kant-en-klare portabiliteit: de gecertificeerde applicatie kan op elke gecertificeerde container-host worden ingezet.
- Minimale footprint: voorkom de overhead van virtuele machine-images die een compleet besturingssysteem met zich meebrengen.
- Vereenvoudigd beheer: verklein de moeite en de risico’s door het patchen van applicaties met al hun afhankelijkheden.
- Lagere ontwikkelkosten: ontwikkel, test en certificeer applicaties binnen één en dezelfde omgeving.
Red Hat Container Certification
De Red Hat Container Certification is de nieuwste toevoeging aan Red Hat’s certificatieportfolio dat Red Hat Enterprise Linux en het Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform omvat. De certificering is tevens onderdeel van een groter geheel aan initiatieven die duizenden partners binnen Red Hat’s wereldwijde ecosysteem moet ondersteunen.
Naast de container certification kondigt Red Hat ook het container certification Partner Early Access Program (PEAP) aan. Tot het einde van de lente, vóór de officiële start van het certificerings- en partnerprogramma, dat momenteel gepland staat voor de zomer van 2014, kunnen partners de tools testen en feedback leveren.
