Houten, The Netherlands, 22 November 2013 - The Dutch broadband market grew by 0.9 percent or 56,800 net additions during the third quarter of 2013, to reach 6.72 million connections on 30 September. A 1.3 percent quarterly decrease in DSL connections to 3.07 million was offset by 1.8 percent growth in cable broadband connections to 3.05 million. The number of FTTH/B connections also grew by almost 8 percent during Q3, giving the technology an 8.9 percent share of the market.
Telecompaper estimates retail revenues for the consumer broadband market increased by 2.1 percent to EUR 505 million in the third quarter of 2013.
KPN, including its XS4ALL and Telfort brands, was still the largest broadband provider in the Netherlands with a 40.6 percent share of subscribers at the end of September 2013, after losing 0.3 percentage points compared with the previous quarter. Ziggo was number two with a market share of 27.3 percent, and UPC came third with 15.7 percent of broadband subscribers.
“During 2013, broadband connections are expected to grow 2.8 percent, with cable and fibre offsetting the continued decrease in DSL,” according to Telecompaper Senior Research Analyst Kamiel Albrecht. “Annual growth is slowing, as over 88.2 percent of households now have broadband, leaving less room for growth.”
