Akamai en Riverbed ontwikkelen nieuwe oplossing voor applicatieperformance hybride cloud
Akamai Technologies, leverancier van cloud-optimalisatie services, en Riverbed Technology, de IT performance company, hebben onlangs hun samenwerking aangekondigd met betrekking tot de ontwikkeling van een nieuwe oplossing die knelpunten binnen applicatieperformance oplost, waar organisaties mee worden geconfronteerd wanneer zij gebruikmaken van public cloud-diensten.
Het doel van Akamai en Riverbed is om gezamenlijk een applicatieversnellingsoplossing voor hybride cloud-netwerken te ontwikkelen, waarbij een combinatie wordt gemaakt tussen internetoptimalisatie en Wide Area Network (WAN)-optimalisatie. De geplande oplossing wordt ontwikkeld om cloud-gebaseerde applicaties te versnellen.
“Organisaties zetten steeds vaker in op een combinatie van zowel in-house als cloud-gebaseerde netwerken”, zegt Joe Skorupa, research vicepresident datacentertransformatie bij Gartner. “Nu de verschuiving naar hybride netwerken plaatsvindt, is het garanderen van applicatieperformance en eindgebruikersproductiviteit van essentieel belang. Het creëert een behoefte aan een geïntegreerde toegang tot bedrijfsapplicaties en SaaS, in een allesomvattend framework.”
De producten en diensten van Akamai en Riverbed worden apart van elkaar gebruikt door meer dan 13.000 organisaties. Het wereldwijde distributienetwerk van Akamai, bestaande uit meer dan 90.000 servers uitgerold in de cloud, biedt route-, protocol- en applicatielayer-optimalisatie voor internet. Daarmee wordt ongeveer 30 procent van al het internetverkeer gefaciliteerd. Riverbed heeft Steelheads ingezet binnen organisatienetwerken die het WAN voorzien van netwerk-, applicatie- en storage-optimalisatie.
Met de gezamenlijke oplossing willen beide organisaties zich specifiek richten op technologie-integratie, ontwikkeld voor het oplossen van nieuwe applicatieperformance-uitdagingen, die worden veroorzaakt door hybride cloud-netwerken. Akamai’s internetoptimalisatie-software wordt geïntegreerd in de Steelheads van Riverbed met als doel uitbreiding van internetoptimalisatie binnen organisatienetwerken. Daarnaast wordt Riverbed’s WAN-optimalisatie-software geïntegreerd in de Akamai-servers om WAN-optimalisatie binnen de public cloud verder uit te breiden.
