Amersfoort, 12 oktober 2009 --- Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), marktleider in opensourceoplossingen, kondigt de ondersteuning aan van gecombineerde virtualisatie-omgevingen van Microsoft Windows Server en Red Hat Enterprise Linux. De ondernemingen komen hiermee tegemoet aan de vraag van bedrijven voor interoperabiliteit in hun IT-omgevingen. Red Hat en Microsoft hebben de fase van testen en valideren voor wederzijdse klanten die servervirtualisatie gebruiken afgerond en de gezamenlijke ondersteuning voor configuraties is vanaf vandaag beschikbaar.
In februari 2009 kondigden Red Hat en Microsoft aan elkaars besturingssystemen en hypervisors te valideren en te ondersteunen. Deze overeenkomst maakt de vandaag aangekondigde uitbreiding van virtualisatie-interoperabiliteit mogelijk via de cross-certificering van Red Hat Enterprise Linux en Microsoft Windows Server.
Klanten kunnen nu heterogene gevirtualiseerde Red Hat- en Microsoft-oplossingen inzetten die zijn getest en worden ondersteund. De certificeringen zijn:
- Windows Server 2003, 2008 en Windows Server 2008 R2 zijn gevalideerd op Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 met de Kernel Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor.
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2, 5.3 en 5.4 zijn gecertificeerd voor Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V en Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 host.
‘IT-beheerders die heterogene infrastructuren ondersteunen begrijpen de moeilijkheden maar al te goed die gepaard gaan met meerdere onafhankelijke technische supportorganisaties. Vaak is niet een specifiek supportteam verantwoordelijk voor fouten die optreden in de IT-omgeving ondanks contracten en SLA’s’, zegt Steve Brasen, Principle Analyst bij Enterprise Management Associates. ‘Met deze aankondiging verzekeren Red Hat en Microsoft hun klanten dat ze zaken oplossen die gerelateerd zijn aan Microsoft Windows op Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, en Red Hat Enterprise Linux die draait op Microsoft Hyper-V, onafhankelijk of het probleem is gerelateerd aan het besturingssysteem of de virtualisatie-implementatie.
‘Wij zijn blij dat we onze klanten extra keuze en interoperabiliteit op het gebied van virtualisatie kunnen bieden. Het is nu mogelijk om gemixte virtualisatieomgevingen met Red Hat- en Microsoft-platformen in te zetten. Tevens profiteren klanten van gecoördineerde ondersteuning van beide bedrijven’, zegt Mike Evans, vice president Corporate Development bij Red Hat. ‘Red Hat-klanten hebben de flexibiliteit om applicaties te draaien in verschillende omgevingen van baremental servers, gevirtualiseerde servers tot publieke clouds.’
